QUEBEC CITY , Aug. 9, 2023 /CNW/ – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ), in collaboration with the company Les produits Pas Poche, located at 133, rue Lévesque, in Sherbrooke , advises the population not to consume the products indicated in the table below, as they may have been contaminated with the hepatitis A virus.

The products that are the subject of this warning were offered for sale until August 8, 2023, at the Marché de solidarité régionale store, located at 843, rue King Ouest, in Sherbrooke , and on its website. The products were packaged in glass bottles. The label of the products included, in addition to their name, the words ‘Brouthé’.
The operator is voluntarily recalling the products in question. It has agreed with MAPAQ to issue this warning as a precautionary measure. Also, people who have any of these products in their possession are advised not to consume it. They must return it to the establishment where they bought it or throw it away. Even if the affected products show no signs of tampering or suspicious odors, their consumption may represent a health risk. In addition, for the sake of prevention, people who have consumed one of these products purchased between July 26 and August 8, 2023 are invited to contact the Estrie public health team at 819 829-3400, extension 42240.
It should be noted that no case of illness associated with the consumption of these foods has been reported to MAPAQ to date.

As of 10 p.m. on Tuesday (Aug. 8), the incident had sickened 520 people, with 41 hospitalized. The Food and Drug Administration will mount an inspection campaign targeting stalls and eateries selling exotic cuisines.
Among those feeling unwell after consuming food from the stall, 354 sought medical help and 32 were hospitalized, as of Monday (Aug. 7). Symptoms reported include diarrhea, stomach pain and cramps, fever, nausea, vomiting, and fatigue.
A task force has been formed to deal with the case, said the Department of Public Health of the northern city in Taiwan.
A preliminary investigation found seven out of 21 samples from the stall tested positive for Salmonella bacteria. More examinations are being conducted to identify the source of infection.
Inspectors said the eggs used to make mayonnaise had not been fully cleaned and the mayo products prepared in advance were not properly refrigerated when delivered to the stall. Salmonella infections have been a major cause of food poisoning events in Taiwan over recent years, according to the health agency.

Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled product reached consumers through Canteens, Grocery and Convenience stores etc.
The recalled product is packaged in an 8 fl oz., clear plastic cup. The product looks like a soft serve cup served in an ice cream store, with a clear plastic cover with a seal and spoon attached to it.
The product brand name is Soft Serve On The Go cups, All flavors, UPC (SEE LIST)

The UPC is the only identifiable code on the package. It does not have any LOT number or best by date. All product produced up to 8/4/23 is being recalled.
To date, two cases of illness have been reported in this outbreak in two states (NY and PA). Both individuals were hospitalized but no deaths have been reported to date.
The recall is the result of an individual becoming ill and reporting to have eaten this product. Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture tested samples of product and one sample tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.
The company has ceased the production and distribution of the product as FDA and the company continue their investigation as to what caused the problem.
Consumers should discontinue consumption of the product immediately. Please dispose of this product or return to your store of purchase for full credit.
