Mexico – At least 30 people suffered from severe food poisoning in Seyé, Yucatan

On Sunday, June 12th, around two in the afternoon many people began to go to a private clinic located near the outskirts of the municipality of Seyé, presenting the same symptoms.

Nausea, high or low blood pressure, vomiting, and diarrhea were just some of the symptoms suffered by men, women, and children, due to the food poisoning cases that forced the municipal authorities to report the events to the Ministry of Health.

The Secretary of Public Security (SSP) transferred some people to other places for their attention, and staff from the Ministry of Health arrived in Seyé to carry out the corresponding investigations.

WINDHOEK, June 14 (Xinhua) — Namibia has closed down the Walvis Bay Aquapark 4 production area for oyster harvesting as well as banning the sale and consumption of raw oysters after detecting Vibrio Parahaemolyticus bacteria, a food-borne pathogen that causes diarrhoea, officials said in a statement Tuesday.

According to Deputy Director of Aquaculture, Johannes Hamukwaya, it is potentially unsafe to consume oysters from Aquapark 4 until further notice.

“The symptoms of vibrio poisoning are acute dysentery and abdominal pain, accompanied by diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, fever, chills and water-like stools. When any of these symptoms appear, seek immediate medical assistance,” he said.

According to information from the fisheries ministry, oysters have been produced commercially in Namibia since the late 1980s when commercial oyster farms were established while much of Namibia’s oysters are exported to Europe, South Africa and Asia, where Hong Kong and China are the most important importers and consumers of Namibian oysters.

Namibian oysters can range in size from 30 grams (cocktail oysters) to 150 grams (full maturity). Enditem

Indonesia – Indonesian Masters: Organisers probe suspected food poisoning involving Malaysian, Thai players

The 2022 Indonesian Masters organising committee is investigating cases of Malaysian and Thai badminton players who came down with suspected food poisoning after having breakfast at a hotel here yesterday.

A spokesman of the All Indonesia Badminton Association centre manager, Broto Happy, said they sympathised with the victims and took a serious view of the incident, which they found out through social media.

The affected players or team managers have not lodged any official reports with the organising committee so far, he said in a statement today.

After liaising with the organising committee, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) urged team managers to remind their players to be cautious when ordering food from outside the hotel or consuming certain types of food.

Meanwhile, Broto said laboratory tests showed that the players who received treatment had probably eaten unhygienic food but there was no food poisoning.

“In cases of food poisoning, the effects are immediate,” said Dr Grace Corlesa Joselini, the tournament doctor.

She said players staying at the two official tournament hotels are free to order food online or eat at nearby restaurants.

Online media reports last night said five Malaysian and Thai players had sought treatment at hospitals for food poisoning.

Russia: Food poisoning outbreak linked to sushi rolls sickens 38 in Samara

The number of people poisoned by rolls in the Samara region has grown to 38 people, according to Russian media. 

25 people were hospitalized in the Togliatti City Clinical Hospital No. 5 , including four children. The rest are being treated on an outpatient basis.

All patients were diagnosed with signs of food poisoning. Investigators examined the food point, identified food suppliers, and also interrogated the director of the restaurant, the investigative department said.

A new E. coli O157:H7 outbreak has been added to the FDA’s CORE Outbreak Investigation Table. At least 10 people are sick. We do not know the states where the ill persons live, their age range, illness onset dates, or if anyone has been hospitalized. Gwalior: 

At least 12 people fell sick after consuming food at a wedding function in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district, a health official said on Sunday.

The victims, all adults, reached the Civil Hospital in Dabra town on Saturday evening with complaints of vomiting and diarrhoea, Gwalior’s Chief Medical and Health Officer Manish Sharma said.

All of them had food at the marriage function in Chhapra village, the official said.

They are undergoing treatment and are out of danger, he said, adding that it was a suspected case of food poisoning.

A team of doctors was sent to the village on Sunday to find out if any other person had fallen ill after consuming food at the wedding, he said.
