Somerset Cheese Company is recalling Pennard Red Goats Cheese because Listeria monocytogenes has been found in a batch of this product.

Risk statement

The presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the above product.

Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.

Somerset Cheese Company is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed where the product was sold. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notice.

Riitan Herkku Oy has announced a recall. Listeria has been found in one of the products manufactured by the company. The recall concerns the product Senttipizza chicken, 280 g. and its best before dates that fall between 6.4. – 9 April 2023. The products have been on sale in retail stores of various chains since March 27, 2023.

According to Riitan Herkku Oy, consumers can return the product in question to the place of purchase, and the purchase will be refunded.

REASON FOR THE RECALL

Possible presence of Salmonella in the above article.
In consultation with the FASFC, we have therefore decided to withdraw this product from the market and to recall it to our customers. No other ALDI products are affected by this recall.

DESCRIPTION OF THE RISK

Possible symptoms of salmonella poisoning are: fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhea within 12 to 48 hours of eating the contaminated food. The risk of infection is higher in the elderly, children, pregnant women and immunocompromised people.

Investigators are working to identify a specific brand of flour linked to this outbreak. However, any raw (unbaked) flour can have germs, like Salmonella. Do not eat or play with uncooked flour, dough, or batter.

Salmonella in Raw Flour

Flour doesn’t look like a raw food, but most flour is raw. This means that it hasn’t been treated to kill germs that cause food poisoning. Any raw (unbaked) flour used to make dough or batter can be contaminated with germs like Salmonella, but Salmonella germs are killed when flour is cooked or baked. You can get sick after eating or tasting raw dough or batter. Children can get sick from handling or eating raw dough used for crafts or play clay.

Source of the Outbreak

Most people reported eating raw dough or batter made with flour before they got sick. Flour was the only common ingredient in the raw dough or batter people reported eating. Investigators are working to identify a specific brand of flour linked to illnesses.

What You Should Do
  • Do not eat raw dough or batter – even a small amount can make you or your child sick
    • Bake or cook food made with raw flour, like cookie dough or cake batter, before eating it.
    • Follow the recipe or package instructions for cooking or baking. Use the temperature and cooking time given in the recipe or instructions.
    • Buy heat-treated flour to use in recipes for homemade playdough.
  • Clean
    • Wash any bowls, utensils, and surfaces that touched raw flour with warm water and soap.
    • Wash your hands with warm water and soap before and after using raw flour.
  • Separate
    • Keep raw flour, dough, and batter separate from foods that won’t be cooked.
  • Call a healthcare provider right away if you or your child have:
    • Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102°F
    • Diarrhea for more than 3 days that is not improving
    • Bloody diarrhea
    • So much vomiting that you cannot keep liquids down
    • Signs of dehydration, such as:
      • Not peeing much
      • Dry mouth and throat
      • Feeling dizzy when standing up

Listeria monocytogenes

Listeria monocytogenes can cause fever, headache and gastroenteritis. Vulnerable people such as immunocompromised and elderly people and young children may present with neurological symptoms due to meningitis. Pregnant women should also be especially alert to these symptoms. Gastroenteritis can appear between a few hours and 3 days after consumption, while neurological symptoms can only appear after 3 months. People who have consumed these products and have these symptoms are invited to consult a doctor and report this consumption to him.

Salmonella

Salmonella can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever and headache within 6 to 72 hours after consumption. These symptoms may be aggravated in young children, immunocompromised subjects and the elderly. People who have consumed these products and have these symptoms are invited to consult a doctor and report this consumption to him.

The Public Health Agency of Catalonia announces that in Catalonia the product “whole rye flour” is being withdrawn from the market due to the presence of soaked rye alkaloids.

The product involved is:

  • Product name (on the label): INTEGRAL RYE FLOUR
  • Trademark: BIOGRA
  • Appearance, weight and packaging: 500gr plastic bag packaging
  • Lot number: 21-005
  • Best before date: 30/05/2023
  • Storage temperature: room temperature

The initial distribution has been in the autonomous communities of Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha, the Balearic Islands, Galicia, Andalusia, the Canary Islands, Castile and Leon, the Community of Madrid, La Rioja and the Basque Country, although it cannot be ruled out that there may be redistributions to other autonomous communities.

This information has been transferred to the competent authorities of the autonomous communities through the Coordinated Rapid Information Exchange System (SCIRI), in order to verify the withdrawal of the affected products from the marketing channels.

People who have products affected by this alert at home are advised to refrain from consuming them.

If you have consumed any of the products from the affected batches and present any symptoms compatible with ergotism (hallucinations, convulsions, numbness, tingling, pain, cyanosis, absence of dust and intense and sudden cold in the extremities that may go followed by acute burning, abdominal pain) it is recommended to go to a health center.
