In agreement with the AFSCA, Tero Bakery (So Bake It) is withdrawing the products “Petit Beurre”, “Vegan Chocolate Cookies” and “Vegan Raisin Cookies” from the So Bake It brand from sale and is recalling them from consumers due to too high aflatoxin B1 content.

Tero Bakery (So Bake It) asks its customers not to consume these products and to return them to the point of sale from which they were purchased. Reimbursement for products manufactured between the dates below will be made upon return.

USA – FDA Advises Restaurants/Retailers Not to Serve/Sell and Consumers Not to Eat Certain Cultured Mussels from East River Shellfish, Inc. Potentially Contaminated with Salmonella/E. coli

  • Consumers who have recently consumed cultured mussels from East River Shellfish, Inc. in IL, MA, or NY.

  • Cultured mussels from East River Shellfish, Inc. from harvest location PE 4-C, harvested on 8/14/2023, shipped on 8/15/2023, and distributed to retailers in IL, MA, and NY. The following photo contains a product tag that would be attached to original containers of the affected mussels:

Purpose

The FDA is advising consumers not to eat, and restaurants and food retailers not to sell, and to dispose of cultured mussels from East River Shellfish, Inc. from harvest location PE 4-C, harvested on 8/14/2023, and shipped on 8/15/2023 to retailers in IL, MA, and NY due to the possible presence of Salmonella and E. coli.

Contaminated mussels can cause illness if eaten raw, particularly in people with compromised immune systems. Food contaminated with Salmonella and E. coli may look, smell, and taste normal. Consumers of these products who are experiencing symptoms of salmonellosis or E. coli should contact their healthcare provider, who should report their symptoms to their local Health Department.

Reason For Issuing Alert –  The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) collected the above-mentioned sample from an online vendor for testing under its routine Food Surveillance Programme. The test result showed the presence of Salmonella in 25 grams of the sample, exceeding the criterion of the Microbiological Guidelines for Food which states that Salmonella should not be detected in 25g of a ready-to-eat food sample.

–  Salmonella infection may cause fever and gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea. The effects on infants, young children, the elderly and persons with a weak immune system could be more severe and may even lead to death.

Action Taken by the Centre for Food Safety –  The CFS has informed the online vendor and distributor concerned of the unsatisfactory test result. The concerned vendor has stopped sales and removed the affected product from shelves. The concerned distributor has initiated a recall according to the CFS’s instructions.

–   The CFS will alert the trade, continue to follow up on the incident and take appropriate action. The investigation is ongoing.

Danger  : Possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes

Listeria monocytogenes can cause fever, headache and gastroenteritis. Vulnerable people such as the immunocompromised and elderly and young children may experience neurological symptoms due to meningitis. Pregnant women should also be particularly attentive to these symptoms. Gastroenteritis can appear between a few hours and 3 days after consumption, while neurological symptoms can only appear after 3 months. People who have consumed these products and present these symptoms are invited to consult a doctor and report this consumption.
