The State Health Department has recorded a total of 103 cases of food poisoning involving primary school students on Gaya Island off here on July 22.

“The affected pupils, aged between six and 12, experienced symptoms including vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain,” said State Health Director Datuk Dr. Asits Sanna in a statement Wednesday.

He said eight cases required hospitalisation, while 95 were treated as outpatients. All cases are reported to be in stable condition, with no fatalities.

Initial investigations showed that the pupils consumed nasi lemak at about 9.50am on July 22, however, investigation is ongoing. Previously, 91 cases were reported by education authorities.

The product that is the subject of this warning was offered for sale in several establishments in the Montreal area. It was vacuum-packed in a transparent plastic bag. The product was sold refrigerated.

The operator is recalling the product in question. It has agreed with the MAPAQ and the Food Inspection Division of the City of Montreal to issue this warning as a precautionary measure. In addition, people who have this product in their possession are advised not to consume it. They must return it to the establishment where they purchased it or throw it away. Even if the product in question does not show any signs of alteration or suspicious odor, its consumption may represent a health risk.

Staphylococcus food poisoning is characterized by a sudden onset of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, cramps, and diarrhea. Symptoms usually appear 30 minutes to 8 hours after eating the contaminated food and disappear after 24 hours.

Botulism is a rare disease that most often results from the consumption of contaminated food containing botulinum toxin produced by  Clostridium botulinum . This toxin develops in particular in canned or home-made or artisanal delicatessen products for which the sterilization process has not been mastered. Symptoms generally appear 12 to 72 hours after ingestion of contaminated food, but they can develop earlier or later (2 hours to 10 days). Botulinum poisoning is characterized by neurological signs: sensation of blurred vision, drooping eyelids, speech disorders, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, muscle weakness. Digestive signs (constipation, vomiting, diarrhea) often accompany neurological signs.

Macedonia – The number of food poisoning in Gostivar is growing

A total of nine people were cared for in the Infectious Disease Department of the Gostivar Hospital, with symptoms of poisoning. After the given therapy, everyone was sent home and there were no more serious cases.

India – Food poisoning! One dead, at least 30 fall ill in Tripura

Dharmanagar, July 14: In an incident of suspected food poisoning, one person died and at least thirty other people fell ill.

All of them had attended Pratishtha of Shiva Temple at the house of Arun Nath, resident of ward no-4 under Dewanpasa Gram Panchayat in Dharmanagar sub-division, and consumed Prasad on Thursday last. Since then, they started developing symptoms like fever, vomiting, loose motion and headache and taking admission in hospitals.

The deceased’s son- Anik Debnath, two other persons- Sudarshan Nath and Ashutosh Nath informed the media that the symptoms appeared after taking the Prasad- fruits and Khichdi on Thursday last. They are suspecting it as an incident of food poisoning.

A batch of Pirkka salad seed mix and Pirkka pumpkin seeds will be withdrawn from sale due to Finnish Customs control inspections showing Salmonella, K-Group said in a press release about its store brand on Monday.

In the same inspection, aflatoxin levels also exceeding the EU legal limit were found in K-Menu-branded peanuts. Aflatoxin is a mould toxin that can form in products stored in humid and warm conditions. The products are dangerous and should not be consumed.
