The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition has learned, through the Coordinated System for Rapid Information Exchange (SCIRI), of an alert notification sent by the health authorities of the Basque Country, regarding the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in beef cooked pig’s head from Spain.

The data of the product involved are:

  • Product name (on label): Cooked pig’s head
  • Brand: Susaeta
  • Lot number: all those currently on the market
  • Expiration date: all
  • Unit Weight: 100g

According to the information available, the initial distribution of the products has been in Andalusia and Castilla – La Mancha, although it is not ruled out that there may be distribution in other autonomous communities.

This information has been transferred to the competent authorities of the autonomous communities through the Coordinated System for Rapid Information Exchange (SCIRI) in order to verify the withdrawal of the affected products from the marketing channels.

With the information available there is NO record in Spain of any reported case associated with this alert.

People who have products affected by this alert at home are recommended to refrain from consuming them and return them to the point of purchase.

In the case of having consumed these types of products from the affected batches and presenting any symptoms compatible with listeriosis (fever, headache, vomiting or diarrhea), it is recommended to go to a health center.

In the case of being pregnant, it is recommended to consult the recommendations for consumption during pregnancy made by the AESAN regarding important food hygiene practices for pregnant women, as well as a list of foods that should be avoided during pregnancy because they are associated with to certain biological hazards (among which Listeria monocytogenes stands out ).

ROCHESTER, NY – Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. is issuing a voluntarily recall on its products containing micro greens, sweet pea leaves, and cat grass because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The affected products were sold at various Wegmans stores in NY, PA, MA, NJ, VA, MD & NC. A full list of potentially affected items can be found on the recall page of Wegmans.comExternal Link Disclaimer and are highlighted below.

We are voluntarily recalling these products because some of the soil they were grown in, supplied to Wegmans Organic Farm by bio365 of Ithaca, New York, tested positive for Salmonella by the supplier. This is out of an abundance of caution. No illnesses have been associated with this recall.

Wegmans is placing automated phone calls to alert customers who purchased these products using Shoppers Club cards.

Customers should return these products to the service desk for a full refund. Those with questions may contact Wegmans Food Markets 1-855-934-3663 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. or Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Please note that due to the holiday our Customer Care Center will close at 4:30 pm on 12/24/22 and reopen at 8:00 am on 12/26/22.

Australia – Yoghurt Shop product sold in SA and NT recalled over E.coli contamination

A flavoured yoghurt has been pulled from shelves in South Australia and the Northern Territory due to contamination, with shoppers urged not to consume affected products.

The Yoghurt Shop announced a recall of its 190g Caramel Crumble Yoghurt cups with a best before date of January 23, 2023 due to E.coli contamination.

The product has been available for sale at Coles and IGA supermarkets in South Australia and the Northern Territory, and at On The Run locations in South Australia.

Food Standards Australia and New Zealand said food products contaminated with E.coli may cause illness if consumed.

In a recall notice, Food Standards Australia and New Zealand said the product should not be eaten and should be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.

The operator is voluntarily recalling the product in question. It has agreed with MAPAQ to issue this warning as a precautionary measure. In addition, people who have this product in their possession are advised not to consume it. They must return it to the establishment where they bought it or throw it away. Even if the affected product shows no signs of tampering or suspicious odors, its consumption may represent a health risk.

USA – Morasch Meats Inc. Recalls Raw Frozen Diced Beef Products Due to Possible E. Coli O157:H7 Contamination

WASHINGTON, Dec. 22, 2022 – Morasch Meats Inc., a Portland, Ore. establishment, is recalling approximately 3,930 pounds of raw frozen diced beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The raw frozen diced beef items were produced on August 24, 2022. The following products are subject to recall [view labels]:

  • 30-lb. box packages containing “BEEF DICED 3/10# BAGS,” with case code FM010152, LOT#: 082422 and a date of 8/24/2022 on the case label. Each case contains three 10 lb. vacuum-sealed, clear plastic bags of the diced beef products.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 4102” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to distributor locations in Oregon for further distribution to restaurants and other institutional users.

The problem was discovered by FSIS during review of testing results, which showed the product tested positive for E. coli O157:H7.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be in institutional or restaurant freezers. Restaurants and institutions are urged not to serve these products. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
