WASHINGTON, Sept. 6, 2022 – Magnolia Provision Company, Inc., a Knoxville, Tenn. establishment, is recalling approximately 497 pounds of beef jerky products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The ready-to-eat beef jerky items were produced on August 25, 2022. The following products are subject to recall [view labels]:

  • 2-oz. packages of “BEEF JERKY EXPERIENCE CHOP HOUSE STYLE PRIME RIB FLAVORED BEEF JERKY” with “EXP 8/25/23” displayed on the back of the package.
  • 8-oz. packages of “BEEF JERKY EXPERIENCE CHOP HOUSE STYLE PRIME RIB FLAVORED BEEF JERKY” with “EXP 8/25/23” displayed on the back of the package.
  • 16-oz. packages of “BEEF JERKY EXPERIENCE CHOP HOUSE STYLE PRIME RIB FLAVORED BEEF JERKY” with “EXP 8/25/23” displayed on the back of the package.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 8091” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

The problem was discovered when the establishment reported to FSIS that it received confirmation from their third-party lab that a product contact surface sample returned as positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected.

Finalnd – Finnish Salmonella outbreak sickens more than 50 people

The number of people in a Salmonella outbreak in Finland has doubled to more than 50, according to public health officials.

In July, 27 people in different parts of Finland were reported to have fallen ill with Salmonella Mbandaka infections. As of early September, 54 people have been sickened in the outbreak.

Patients fell sick between April and August and 31 of them are women. Their average age is 29 and the range is under 1 to 74 years old.

Four people were hospitalized because of their infections and only one patient had traveled abroad before becoming ill, said the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).

Fazer has announced that it will remove the following Fazer Yosa products from sale, with a best-before date of 19 September 2022.

The product names and EAN codes of the recalled products are:

According to the manufacturer, mold growth has been detected in the product batches in question, and they are therefore not suitable for consumption. The consumer notices the growth of mold on the surface of the product. The recall only applies to the products and flavors mentioned above and marked with a best before date. No similar problem has been observed in other product lots. 

Fazer instructs consumers to dispose of the products and announces that it will refund the withdrawn products.

Biofresh Belgium asks its customers to not to consume this product and to bring it back to the point of sale where it was purchased where the product will be refunded.
