UK – Faughan Foods extends its recall of Glensallagh Chicken Breast Products because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes

Faughan Foods has taken the precautionary step of extending its recall of Glensallagh Roast Chicken Breast Pieces to include two additional batches and a further product, Glensallagh Tikka Style Chicken Pieces, because the products might contain Listeria monocytogenes. These products were sold in Lidl Northern Ireland stores only.

Risk statement

The products listed above might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.

Action taken by the company

Faughan Foods is recalling the above products. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the products. Please see the attached notice.

Our advice to consumers

If you have bought either of the above products do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

New Brunswick health officials have declared an outbreak of vibrio parahaemolyticus, a bacteria found in shellfish that causes gastrointestinal illness in humans.

The province says nine cases of vibrio have been confirmed. The average for New Brunswick is typically only two to three cases a year.

“I am advising all New Brunswickers to ensure that they obtain shellfish and other seafood from a licensed establishment or harvest shellfish from fishing zones which are currently open by Fisheries and Oceans Canada,” said N.B. chief of health Dr. Jennifer Russell in a news release.

Albert Heijn urges customers not to eat AH steak sausage and to bring it back to an Albert Heijn store, where they will be reimbursed for the purchase price upon return of the product.

Eating a product with an E. coli bacteria (faeces bacteria, STEC, EHEC) can, if not thoroughly cooked, result in nausea, vomiting and (bloody) diarrhea within a week. Especially for young children, the elderly, people with low immunity and pregnant women. Consult your doctor or general practitioner for more information if you have health complaints after eating the said product.

Salmonella disease manifests itself within a few days after infection with diarrhea, abdominal pain and occasionally vomiting and a slight fever. The symptoms usually subside on their own after several days. Infants, toddlers, senior citizens and people with a weakened immune system in particular can develop more severe disease processes. People who have eaten this food and develop severe or persistent symptoms should seek medical attention and advise them of a possible salmonella infection.

Seeking preventive medical treatment without symptoms does not make sense.

The cheese was sold in grocery stores in Hesse and Bavaria.

Ottawa, September 19, 2020 – The food safety warning issued on August 11, 2020 has been updated to include additional product information. This additional information was identified during the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) food safety investigation.

Sunsprout Natural Foods is recalling Sprouts Alive brand and Sunsprout brand Micro – Greens Alfalfa from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination. Consumers should not consume and retailers, restaurants, and institutions should not sell or use the recalled products described below.

What you should do

The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing the recalled products from the marketplace.
