Hong Kong – Imported goat cheese sample suspected to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (August 27) that a sample of goat cheese imported from France was detected with possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a pathogen. The concerned batch of the product has not entered the market. The CFS is following up on the incident.

“The CFS received a notification from the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed of the European Commission that the above-mentioned batch of product might have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes and is being recalled. Upon learning of the incident, the CFS immediately contacted the local importer for follow-up. The CFS has informed the importer concerned of the irregularity. Investigation revealed that the affected batch of product is still stored in the importer’s warehouse and has not entered the local market,” a spokesman for the CFS said.

QUEBEC CITY , July 29, 2024 /CNW/ – The food recall press release issued on July 24, 2024 has been updated. The affected product may have been sold in several establishments in the Montreal and Laval regions . The Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation (MAPAQ), in collaboration with Aliment Stabile, which operates on the premises of Salami Mondial, located at 3405, boulevard de la Concorde Est, in Laval , is advising the public not to consume the product indicated in the table below, as this food may contain the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus .

The product that is the subject of this warning was offered for sale in several establishments in the Montreal and Laval regions . It was vacuum-packed in a transparent plastic bag. The product was sold refrigerated.

The operator is recalling the product in question. It has agreed with the MAPAQ and the Food Inspection Division of the City of Montreal to issue this warning as a precautionary measure. In addition, people who have this product in their possession are advised not to consume it. They must return it to the establishment where they purchased it or throw it away. Even if the product in question does not show any signs of alteration or suspicious odor, its consumption may represent a health risk.

Staphylococcus food poisoning is characterized by a sudden onset of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, cramps, and diarrhea. Symptoms usually appear 30 minutes to 8 hours after eating the contaminated food and disappear after 24 hours.

It should be noted that no cases of illness associated with the consumption of this food have been reported to MAPAQ to date.

Vietnam – Over 2,000 people in Vietnam suffer from food poisoning in first 6 months

HANOI, July 29 (Xinhua) — Vietnam reported 36 food poisoning cases involving 2,138 people and six deaths in the first six months of this year, local media reported Monday, citing the Ministry of Health.

Compared to the same period last year, the number of cases declined by four, but the number of victims increased by 1,432 people, Suc Khoe & Doi Song, the ministry’s newspaper, reported.

The poisoning trend tends to be on the rise at restaurants, hotels and among food sold by vendors, said Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen.

Recent mass poisoning cases were reported at factories, company kitchens, school canteens, and food stalls located near schools.

Microorganisms and natural toxins are the primary causes of food poisoning cases while natural toxins and alcohol poisoning are the leading causes of death, according to the ministry’s analysis.

SPAR continuously monitors the products in its range to ensure the highest quality. During a routine quality control, increased levels of ochratoxin A in the ingredient raisins were found in the “NUSSYY Organic Protein Bar – Protein Bear 35g” with the best-before date (BBD) of June 22nd, 2025, the “NUSSYY Organic Bar – Lazy Freddy 35g” with the best-before date of June 22nd, 2025, the “NUSSYY Organic Berry Muesli Ovenbaked + Protein 350g” with the best-before date of July 7th, 2025 and the “SPAR Natur*pur Organic Muesli Fruit Almond 375g” with the best-before date of April 6th, 2025. For this reason, SPAR is recalling all of the products mentioned with the above best-before date. The affected goods with the respective best-before date have already been withdrawn from circulation.

Customers are asked not to consume the above-mentioned products. Only the products listed with the stated best-before dates from NUSSYY and SPAR Natur*pur are affected.

All customers who have purchased said products can of course return them to the nearest SPAR, EUROSPAR or INTERSPAR store or Maximarkt. Customers will receive a refund of the purchase price even without a receipt.
