QUEBEC CITY , April 11, 2024 /CNW/ – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ), in collaboration with the company Aliment Stabile, which carries out its activities on the premises of the company Salami Mondial , located at 3405, boulevard de la Concorde, in Laval , advises the population not to consume the products indicated in the table below, because these foods are likely to contain the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria .

The products that are the subject of this warning were offered for sale in several establishments in Montreal, Laval and Lanaudière. The salami was vacuum packed in a transparent plastic bag. All products were sold refrigerated.

The operator is recalling the products in question. He agreed with MAPAQ to broadcast this warning as a precautionary measure. Additionally, people who have one of these products in their possession are advised not to consume it. They must return it to the establishment where they purchased it or throw it away. Even if the affected products do not show signs of spoilage or suspicious odor, their consumption may represent a health risk.

Food poisoning by staphylococci is characterized by a sudden onset of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, cramps and diarrhea. Usually, symptoms appear 30 minutes to 8 hours after eating contaminated food and disappear after 24 hours.

It should be noted that no cases of illness associated with the consumption of these foods have been reported to MAPAQ to date.

Several students in Khánh Sơn District of the south-central province Khánh Hoà were hospitalised after eating rice balls and rolls sold by local people in front of the school gates, reported the district’s medical centre.

From March 12 to date, Khánh Hoà Province recorded three consecutive cases of suspected food poisoning from eating at restaurants and street vendors.

The latest was the case of dozens of students being hospitalised after eating breakfast from the joints in front of the school gates in Vĩnh Trườn Ward of Nha Trang city, including one student who died on the morning of April 5.

Iceland – Mold poison in spelled muesli – Ochratoxin A

The Swedish Food Agency warns against the consumption of one production batch of MUNA spelled muesli with cranberries, because the mold poison ochratoxin was detected above the limit in the sultanas raisins contained in the product. Icepharma hf. has, in cooperation with the Reykjavík Health Authority, recalled the product. 
The Swedish Food Agency received information about the product through the RASFF European rapid alert system for food and feed.

Food contaminated with Clostridium botulinum toxin may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms in adults can include facial paralysis or loss of facial expression, unreactive or fixed pupils, difficulty swallowing, drooping eyelids, blurred or double vision, difficulty speaking, including slurred speech, and a change in sound of voice, including hoarseness. Symptoms of foodborne botulism in children can include difficulty swallowing, slurred speech, generalized weakness and paralysis. In all cases, botulism does not cause a fever. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

Taiwan – Two more Taipei restaurants closed due to suspected food poisoning

Taipei, April 7 (CNA) Two restaurants in Taipei, owned by Wowprime Corp., have been closed temporarily, after a total of 22 customers fell ill with food poisoning symptoms, the Taipei City Government Health Department said Sunday.

The suspected food poisoning at the two Wowprime restaurants in the bustling Ximending area followed the recent closure of three restaurants in the city owned by the Malaysian brand Polam Kopitiam, after over 30 of its diners fell ill with food poisoning, and two of them died.

Sri Lanka – 120 plantation workers hospitalised due to food poisoning

Hatton, April 8 (Daily Mirror)- Some 120 plantation workers including children were hospitalized due to food poisoning after consuming food served at a Kovil in Nallatanniya last night.

The people had suffered vomiting, stomach ache, diarrhea and had been faintish after consuming the food served at a dansala of the Kovil and were admitted to the Maskeliya Divisional Hospital.

A medical officer at the hospital said 25 of them were receiving in-house treatment while the others had left the hospital after treatment.

Public Health Inspectors have obtained food samples to be sent to the Government Analyst.
