What’s New

  • A new outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes (ref #1205) in a not yet identified food has been added to the table.
  • For the outbreak of Salmonella Sundsvall (ref #1203) linked to cantaloupe, the recall was expanded to include additional retailers and wholesalers who received the recalled melons. Additionally, the Oranienburg strain of Salmonella was added to this outbreak. See the Outbreak Advisory for additional information.
  • For the outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes (ref #989) linked to peaches, plums, and nectarines, the advisory was updated to include international distribution of the recalled fruit to Canada, Mexico, and Taiwan.
  • For the investigation of elevated lead levels in Cinnamon Applesauce Pouches (ref # 1198) the advisory was updated to include additional adverse event reports and Investigation updates.
  • For the outbreak of Salmonella Newport (ref# 1201) in a not yet identified food, the case count has increased from 42 to 43 cases.
  • For the outbreak of E. coli O121 (ref#1195) in a not yet identified food, an on-site inspection was initiated and sample collection and analysis was initiated.
  • For the outbreak of E. coli O103 (ref# 1192) in a not identified product, the investigation is complete and the outbreak has ended.

  • The outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes (ref #989) has been linked to peaches, plums, and nectarines. FDA issued an advisory on this outbreak. FDA’s investigation is ongoing.
  • A new outbreak of Salmonella Sundsvall (ref #1203) linked to cantaloupe has been added to the table. FDA issued an advisory on this outbreak. FDA’s investigation is ongoing.

What’s New

  • An investigation of illnesses (ref #1198) linked to apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches is now being managed by FDA’s Coordinated Outbreak Response & Evaluation (CORE) Network and has been added to the table. These illnesses are due to elevated lead levels in the products, which can be particularly harmful to children. FDA has issued an advisory with advice for consumers, has initiated traceback, sample collection and analysis, and onsite inspections. WanaBana has issued a voluntary recall of all apple cinnamon pouches. Updates will be provided as they become available.

What’s New

  • For the outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes (ref #1172), The Ice Cream House initiated a recall to include all dairy and non-dairy [parve] frozen dessert products manufactured in their facility in Brooklyn, NY. See the Outbreak Advisory for additional information. FDA has initiated an on-site inspection.

What’s New

  • For the outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 (ref #1166), the case count has increased from 11 to 12.
  • For the outbreak of Cyclospora cayetanensis (ref #1163), the case count has increased from 112 to 118 cases.
  • For the outbreak of Cyclospora cayetanensis (ref #1159), the case count has increased from 38 to 43 cases. This incident now includes additional illnesses based on similarities in reported exposures.
  • For the outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis (ref #1156) linked to raw cookie dough, the advisory was updated on July 13, 2023. The outbreak has ended and FDA’s investigation is closed.
  • For the investigation linked to Morel mushrooms (ref #1152), the advisory was updated on July 19, 2023. The outbreak has ended, and FDA’s investigation is closed.

The Food and Drug Administration has posted an increase in the number of patients in an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes infections as it continues investigations into three other outbreaks.

The new patient count in the Listeria outbreak is 16, up from 14 reported a week ago. As of March 16 the FDA had not determined the cause of the outbreak. The agency has initiated traceback efforts, but has not revealed what food or foods are involved in those activities.

The FDA has not revealed any demographic information on the Listeria patients and has not reported where they live.

In other outbreak news the FDA is investigating a new outbreak of Salmonella SaintPaul infections that has sickened 59 people. The agency announced the outbreak on March 16. As with the Listeria outbreak investigation, the FDA has not released any patient information for the Salmonella outbreak and has not reported where the patients live. Traceback efforts have begun, according to the FDA, but the agency did not report what food or foods are involved.
