Salmonella disease manifests itself within a few days of infection with diarrhea, abdominal pain and occasionally vomiting and a slight fever. The symptoms usually disappear on their own after a few days. Infants, small children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems in particular can develop more severe courses of illness. People who have eaten this food and develop severe or persistent symptoms should seek medical help and point out a possible salmonella infection. Seeking medical treatment as a preventative measure without symptoms is not advisable.

Why is the product being recalled?

Salmonella has been detected in dried chives. Products where the dried ram’s onions are used can therefore also be contaminated with Salmonella, and there is therefore a risk of infection with the bacteria.

The symptoms of infection with Salmonella are diarrhoea, abdominal pain, fever, headache and possibly nausea and vomiting. The illness can last from a few days to several weeks.

The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration advises consumers to return the products to the store where they were purchased or to discard them.
