Once Upon a Farm PBC of Berkeley, CA, is recalling Once Upon a Farm Organic Plant-Rich Meal, Curried Carrots & Beans because of potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

According to details published online by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall was initiated May 17, 2024, and is ongoing.

The recalled products were distributed in Tennessee, Georgia, Louisiana, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, New Jersey and Texas.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause serious and sometimes life-threatening infections. Anyone who has eaten any recalled products and developed symptoms of Listeria infection should seek medical treatment and tell their doctors about the possible Listeria exposure.

Once Upon a Farm Organic Plant-Rich Meal, Curried Carrots & Beans, 3.5 oz, packed in single serving flexible pouches.

USA – UBC Food Distributors Recalls Baraka Brand Ground Black Pepper Spice Because of Possible Health Risk Announcement – Salmonella

UBC Food Distributors in Dearborn Michigan is recalling the Ground Black Pepper under the Baraka brand name in 7oz plastic containers 7oz * 10 With UPC code 8 22514 26626 6 because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The recalled “black pepper” were distributed nationwide in retail stores.

The product comes in a 7 ounce, clear plastic package marked with expiration date of January 2026 on the back of the label.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The potential for contamination was noted after the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) notified us of the contamination based on a routine state surveillance sample collected by the New York Department of Agriculture and Markets that tested positive for Salmonella the presence of Salmonella in some 7 ounce packages of Ground Black Pepper.

Production of the product has been suspended while FDA and the company continue their investigation as to the source of the problem.

Consumers who have purchased 7-ounce container of ground black pepper are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 313-846-8117 Monday to Friday between 9 am to 5 pm.

India – Nearly 100 people suffer from food poisoning at community event in Udaipur

Nearly 100 people took ill on Sunday in an incident of food poisoning in Rajasthan’s Udaipur, officials said.

Block Chief Medical Officer Dr Saket Jain, after primary examination of patients, said that it looked like a matter of food poisoning.

As per reports, several people took ill and grew symptoms of food poisoning after eating at a community event, following which they were admitted to a nearby hospital and are undergoing treatment.

India – 42 engineering students in Tamil Nadu hospitalised due to suspected food poisoning

In a concerning incident, 42 students from a private engineering college in Tamil Nadu were hospitalised early Sunday morning due to suspected food poisoning. The students, who had consumed dinner at their hostel, began experiencing symptoms of uneasiness and vomiting shortly after the meal, according to police reports.

All affected students were promptly transported to the Erode District Medical College Hospital for treatment. Medical staff have reported that the condition of the students is stable, and they are currently under observation.
