This is because the aforementioned company announced that it was voluntarily withdrawing some batches from the US market. specific to a “NUTRAMIGEN” brand product, due to the possibility of contamination with Cronobacter sakazakii from a product tested outside the United States.

USA – Norovirus Outbreak: Raw Oysters Linked To 41 Cases In San Diego County

SAN DIEGO, CA — Dozens of people have gotten sick after eating raw oysters in San Diego County.

County health officials have linked 41 confirmed and probable cases of norovirus to raw oysters imported from a specific harvest location in Northwest Mexico. Norovirus is the leading cause of vomiting and diarrhea, and foodborne illness in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The cases began in mid-December when people dined on raw oysters from Sonora, Mexico, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency. The oysters were only available through restaurants and wholesale locations.

Health officials have asked those who purchased “Rocky Point oysters,” packed by GOLPAC in Bahia Salina, Sonora, to not eat or serve them until the outbreak investigation is completed.

Spain – Caterer linked to school outbreak has operations suspended

Authorities in a Spanish city have suspended the permit of a company that provided catering to several schools after a large outbreak.

The outbreak affected 149 children and five teachers from four Palma schools on the Balearic Islands this past December.

The suspected food was a rice dish. Sick people had abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting but symptoms were mild with no hospitalizations.

The General Directorate of Public Health temporarily suspended the activity of the company in charge of the catering service. The move follows investigations carried out into the food poisoning incident by the Food Safety Service of the Ministry of Health which found “obvious shortcomings” in food safety management.

USA – Cheese recalled in Hawaii due to Listeria

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health (DOH) is alerting residents to a voluntary recall of Rizo Bros. California Creamery’s Cotija Aged Mexican Grating Cheese, batch number 4DW-23318, for potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes. This product was distributed nationwide, including retailers in Hawaiʻi such as R. Field Wine Company, select Foodland and Foodland Farms supermarkets, and Cost.U.Less Hilo.

This recall is the result of a food sampling and analysis partnership conducted by DOH’s Laboratory Preparedness and Response Branch (LPRB) and Food and Drug Branch (FDB), and funded by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, to collect certain food products and test for Salmonellaand/or Listeria monocytogenes to protect public health.

The product which is the subject of this warning was offered for sale until January 11, 2024, and only at the establishment designated above. The product was packaged in an aluminum tray with a transparent plastic lid and sold refrigerated.

The operator is recalling the product in question. He agreed with MAPAQ to broadcast this warning as a precautionary measure. In addition, people who have this product in their possession are advised not to consume it. They must return it to the establishment where they purchased it or throw it away. Food contaminated with E. coli bacteria does not necessarily show visible spoilage or a suspicious odor, but can still make a person who consumes it sick. Possible symptoms are: nausea, vomiting, more or less acute abdominal cramps and watery or bloody diarrhea.

It should be noted that no cases of illness associated with the consumption of this food have been reported to MAPAQ to date.
