A voluntary candy recall issued back in May has now been elevated to a Class I recall, the most severe issued by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

Palmer Candy Co. out of Sioux City, Iowa, recalled its white-coated confectionery items on May 5 because they had the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The product comes in a variety of retail packaging like bags, pouches, and tubs.

FDA Updated the alert on August 6th.

The number of hospitalizations due to suspected food poisoning in Dong Thap Province, southern Vietnam reached 148 as of 1:00 pm on Monday, with most of them seeking medical attention after eating banh mi from the same food establishment.

Vo Minh Phuc, head of the provincial Department for Food Safety, told a press conference held on Monday afternoon that these 148 cases had been admitted to six general hospitals and medical centers in the province between August 7 and 12.

The local health authority collected food samples and patient specimens for testing to serve an investigation into the cause of the poisoning.

A popular gourmet burger chain in Madrid, Spain, is at the center of a food poisoning outbreak that has affected 17 people, with two individuals hospitalized. The incident occurred at two Hundred Burgers locations in the Spanish capital.

The outbreak, which is suspected to be caused by salmonella, has been linked to a truffle egg yolk sauce served at two of the restaurant’s branches. Customers who dined at these locations on August 4 and 5 reported symptoms including fever, vomiting, and diarrhea, according to Express.

A spokesperson for the region stated that public health services are investigating the incident, focusing on the possibility of “contaminated sauces.” As a precautionary measure, health officials are checking approximately 150 people who may have been exposed to the product during the two-day period.
