Prairie City Bakery of Vernon Hills, IL is voluntarily recalling select lots of Prairie City Bakery® Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Ooey Gooey Butter Cake. The product contains Jif® peanut butter that was voluntarily recalled by the J.M. Smucker company on May 20, 2022, due to the potential for Salmonella contamination.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
At the time of this release, there have been no illnesses reported.
This recall affects 50,220 individually wrapped cakes sold in 2 ounce packages and in ten packs of 2 ounce packages of Prairie City Bakery® Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Ooey Gooey Butter Cake containing cooked peanut butter. They were sold at gas stations and convenience stores nationwide.
The recalled product should not be consumed or handled outside of its package. The product should be disposed of or returned to place of purchase. The recalled product can be identified using the following information:

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns against consuming certain “JIF” branded peanut butter products.
On May 24, 2022, JIF announced that it had initiated a voluntary recall of certain lots of potentially affected products. The product designation can be found in the attachment.
The recall is related to an outbreak of Salmonella Senftenberg in the United States.
The products were distributed within the USA and other third countries, as well as in Spain. The products mentioned are currently not recognizable in Germany.
There is a possibility that consumers could have purchased the products online via marketplaces or through short-term stays in the Member States and third countries in which sales took place.

Salmonella:
Salmonella disease manifests itself within a few days after infection with diarrhoea, abdominal pain and occasionally vomiting and a slight fever. The symptoms usually subside on their own after a few days. Babies, small children, senior citizens and people with a weakened immune system in particular can develop more severe illnesses. Anyone who has eaten this food and develops severe or persistent symptoms should seek medical attention and report possible salmonella infection. It makes no sense to seek preventive medical treatment without symptoms.

PITTSBURGH – Giant Eagle, Inc. has issued a voluntarily recall of multiple bakery items containing peanut butter sold at three Pennsylvania supermarkets in Ebensburg, Indiana and Northern Cambria due to potential salmonella contamination. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
The impacted bakery products were sold in clam shell packaging, have sell by dates through May 28, 2022 and can be identified by the following 11 PLU numbers:

The recalled items were sold in the bakery departments of the three Giant Eagle stores only and most guests who have purchased the impacted product have already been contacted directly. The recalled items were sold in 120 transactions total. There have been no reports of illness associated with this recall to date.
Giant Eagle was made aware of the issue during the retailer’s investigation into the recently announced nationwide Jif brand peanut butter recall from the J.M Smucker Company. The peanut butter included in the recalled bakery items is included in the Jif peanut butter recall.
Guests who have purchased the affected product should dispose of it or return a qualifying receipt to the local Giant Eagle store for a refund. Guests with questions may call Giant Eagle Customer Care at 1-800-553-2324 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST.
In addition to this public communication regarding this recall, Giant Eagle initiated its consumer recall telephone notification process. The consumer recall process uses purchase data and consumer telephone numbers housed in the Giant Eagle Advantage Card database to alert those households that purchased the affected product and have updated telephone contact information in the database.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 (Xinhua) — Malaysia’s Health Ministry ordered the recall of a batch of U.S.-made peanut butter on Monday over fears of salmonella contamination.
The ministry ordered the product’s local importer to recall the affected batch, which was flagged by U.S. authorities, Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.
The ministry will also be monitoring entry points into the country for the affected batch of products. Consumers who have purchased the affected products have been asked to avoid consuming them.
The batch was also distributed to other countries including Canada, Thailand, Honduras, Spain, Japan, South Korea, Singapore.
Salmonella is a pathogenic bacterium that can cause foodborne illnesses including fever, abdominal cramps and diarrhoea.
The Jif brand peanut butter in question has been exported to Canada, Thailand, Honduras, Spain, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia.
The affected Jif brand peanut butter products are sold under lot numbers 1274425 to 2140425, with the last three digits being 425. The Ministry of Health is urging consumers to stop consuming the products if they have already purchased them.

The peanut butter is linked to a Salmonella Senftenberg outbreak that has sickened at least 16 people in 12 states. No illnesses have been reported to the company to date that are linked to this specific product. The recalling firm is Safeway Fresh Foods doing business as Sunnyside Fresh of Vineland, New Jersey.
