More than 130 people are sick in France as part of a Yersinia outbreak linked to a raw milk goat’s cheese brand.

France has 133 cases, while Belgium, Norway, and Luxembourg all have one each in the Yersinia enterocolitica biotype 2, serotype O:9 outbreak.

Etoile de Provence Banon AOP 100-gram with dates up to Aug. 2, 2024, has been recalled from more than 20 countries, including Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

USA – More than 165 infected with Salmonella in raw milk outbreak

More than 165 people, mostly children, have been sickened so far by raw milk products from Raw Farm LLC.

In reports obtained by Food Safety News from the California Division of Communicable Disease Control and the California Department of Health, the Salmonella outbreak has sickened 165 people across four states. Previously the department of health was reporting a dozen sick. The most recent of the reports is from February this year. The most recent illness was recorded this past month.

The above batches of Etoile de Provence Banon AOP (raw milk goats’ cheese) are being recalled due to the presence of Yersinia enterocolitica.

Nature Of Danger:

Yersinia enterocolitica are bacteria which may be ingested via contaminated food or water. Symptoms of yersiniosis most often develop 3-7 days after infection. Symptoms include fever, abdominal cramps, watery or bloody diarrhoea, headaches, and vomiting. Yersiniosis is typically self-limiting, and symptoms can persist from 1-3 days up to 3 weeks. Some individuals are more vulnerable to infection, including young children, older adults and immunocompromised individuals.

Action Required:

Manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, caterers & retailers:

Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batches from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale.

Consumers:

Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batches.
