The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition has informed us, through the Coordinated System for the Rapid Exchange of Information (SCIRI), an alert regarding the presence of Salmonella in neutral gelatin sheets of the Hacendado brand , from Germany, transferred by the health authorities of the Autonomous Community of Madrid.

The company that markets the product in Spain has issued an official statement that it publishes on its website in order to withdraw the affected product from the market.

The data of the product involved are:

  • Product name: NEUTRAL GELATIN
  • Brand Name: HACENDADO
  • Product Appearance: Pack of 12 sheets
  • Batch number: A11054/01
  • Preferential consumption date: 04.2027
  • Unit Weight: 20g
  • Temperature: room

The AESAN has transferred this information to the competent authorities of the autonomous communities through the SCIRI and to the Services of the European Commission through the European Food Alert Network (RASFF), in order to verify the withdrawal of the products affected marketing channels.

With the information available , there is no record in Spain of any reported case associated with this alert.

People who have products affected by this alert at home are recommended to refrain from consuming them and return them to the point of purchase.

The presence of Salmonella in products can pose certain health risks to people who consume them. In the case of having consumed this product and presenting symptoms compatible with salmonellosis (mainly diarrhea and/or vomiting accompanied by fever and headache), it is recommended to go to a health center.

USA – Baked Goods linked to Salmonella Outbreak in Ohio

Allen County Public Health (ACPH) is investigating a potential Salmonella outbreak affecting Allen, Putnam and Hancock counties. ACPH was notified by Hancock County regarding a multi-county Salmonella outbreak with illness onsets currently ranging from Oct. 1-6, 2022. As of Monday, Allen County had one confirmed case. Chances of other counties being affected is possible.

Undercooked food is the source for most illnesses related to Salmonella. This particular outbreak may be linked to baked goods prepared at a home bakery and distributed at establishments in Allen, Hancock and Putnam Counties. Diagnosing Salmonella infection requires testing a specimen (sample), such as stool (poop) or blood. Infection is diagnosed when a laboratory test detects Salmonella bacteria in stool, body tissue, or fluids.
