USA – Tampico Spice Company Cayenne Pepper Recalled For Aflatoxin

Tampico Spice Company Cayenne Pepper is being recalled because it contains elevated levels of aflatoxin, a toxin that can be carcinogenic. This recall notice was posted on the FDA’s Enforcement page, so there is no mention of any adverse events having been reported. The recalling firm is Tampico Spice Company Inc. of Los Angeles, California.

This is a voluntary recall initiated by the firm. The cayenne pepper and seasoning mixes were sold at the retail level in these states: California, Washington, Arizona, Oregon, Utah, Texas, Nevada, and New Jersey. About 5553 pounds of these products are included in this recall.

In agreement with the FASFC, Paas Food Industries withdraws the product “chipolata chicken merguez” from sale and recalls it from consumers because of the possible presence of Salmonella.

Paas Food Industries advises its customers not to consume this product and to return it to the Intermarché/Intermarché by Mestdagh point of sale where it was purchased.

Finland – Quality deviation in protein shakes; the product may spoil prematurely

Valio has announced that it has recalled two protein shake products because they may spoil before the marked best before date.

The recall applies to the following products with a best-before date of May 24, 2023:

  • Valio PROfeel® protein shake 2.5 dl orange cocoa lactose-free
  • Valio PROfeel® protein shake 2.5 dl raspberry cocoa lactose-free

Valio says that the aforementioned products should not be consumed and advises consumers to contact Valio via the feedback form on the website: link to the feedback form.

Finland – Salmonella found in salami

Lidl has announced that it is recalling an Italian salami product because salmonella has been found in its control samples in another country. The product is Italiamo Strolghino salami, its weight is 250 grams and the recall concerns the product date 4/28/2023 and batch ID 16.

The product has been sold in 62 Lidl stores, mainly in Pirkanmaa and Finland proper. The product batch has not been sold in the capital region, Eastern Finland, Central Finland or Northern Finland.

On its website, Lidl asks its customers to return the products in question to a Lidl store, where the price of the product will be refunded.

QUEBEC CITY , Feb. 17 2, 2023 /CNW/ – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ), in collaboration with Boucherie L & L Boucher, located at 67, route 104, in Mont-Saint-Grégoire, advises the population not to consume the product indicated in the table below, because this food is likely to contain the bacterium  Listeria monocytogenes . Even if the expiration date of the product has passed, some consumers may have it in their possession.

The product that is the subject of this warning has been offered for sale at the establishment named above only. The product was vacuum packed and sold refrigerated.

The operator is voluntarily recalling the product in question. It has agreed with MAPAQ to issue this warning as a precautionary measure. In addition, people who have this product in their possession are advised not to consume it. They must return it to the establishment where they bought it or throw it away.

Even if the product does not show signs of tampering or a suspicious odor, it could be contaminated with  Listeria monocytogenes bacteria . Consumption of food contaminated with this bacterium can cause listeriosis, a food-borne illness that may cause several symptoms among these: fever, muscle aches, headaches, stiff neck, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Symptoms most often appear between 3 and 30 days after eating the contaminated food, but can sometimes even occur up to 70 days later. In this regard, pregnant women and their unborn child, the elderly, children as well as people with weakened immune systems are considered the most vulnerable.

It should be noted that no case of illness associated with the consumption of this food has been reported to MAPAQ to date.
