Ottawa, July 27, 2021 – The food recall warning issued on July 23, 2021 has been updated to include additional product information. This additional information was identified during the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) food safety investigation.

Phoenicia Group Inc. is recalling Al-Rabih brand Halva / Halawa and Tahini from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination. Consumers should not consume and distributors, retailers and food service establishments such as hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, hospitals and nursing homes should not sell or use the recalled products described below.

Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

This recall was triggered by CFIA test results. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.

The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing the recalled products from the marketplace.

UK – Update 1 : Cahill’s Farm Cheese recalls several cheese products because of contamination with Listeria monocytogenes

Cahill’s Farm Cheese is recalling a number of cheese products because Listeria monocytogenes has been found in the product. The product recall information notice, (PRIN) has been updated to include additional products and batches and replaces the original PRIN.

Risk statement

The presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the product listed above.

Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.

Action taken by the company

Cahill’s Farm Cheese is recalling the above products. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached notice.

If you have bought any of the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.

Cause:
There is a risk that the product may contain listeria, as a random check has found listeria at the end of its shelf life. The product has expired on shelf life, but some consumers may have chosen to freeze the product.

Risk:
Infection with listeria bacteria, where the symptoms can include flu-like symptoms, fever and headaches and in rare cases gastrointestinal problems.

Advice for consumers:
The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration advises consumers to deliver the product back to the store where it was purchased or to discard it.

Cyprus – Food poisoning for National Guard new recruits

Approximately 30 new recruits of the National Guard in Larnaca have suffered food poisoning.

According to the Defense Ministry spokesman Christos Pieri, the new recruits had dinner on Saturday and immediately afterward they started feeling bad. The Ministry immediately contacted the catering company.

The company found out that the problem was with the sauce of the meat.

As noted, it is the first time in the last three years that the National Guard has been cooperating with the said company that such a problem arose.

The health condition of all soldiers is now good, Pieris said.
