Switzerland – Public warning: Salmonella in the product “BléVita Bio Sandwich Sour Cream – Onion”

Bern, 15.10.2024 – Salmonella has been detected in the product “BléVita Bio Sandwich Sour Cream – Onion” sold by Migros. Since a health risk cannot be ruled out, the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) recommends not consuming the affected product. Migros immediately withdrew the product from sale and ordered a recall.

How can this product be dangerous?
Salmonella are bacteria (zoonotic agents) that can cause illness in humans and animals. In humans, they can trigger gastrointestinal disorders accompanied by fever, as well as vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain within 6 to 72 hours after ingestion. People who have consumed this product are advised to consult a doctor if the symptoms described appear.

Switzerland -Public warning: Aflatoxins in Alnatura pumpkin and carrot risotto flavoured jars

Bern, 03.07.2024 – Alnatura has informed the enforcement authorities of the canton of Zurich and the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) that a high aflatoxin content has been detected in pumpkin and carrot risotto-flavored small pots (Kürbis-Risotto mit Karotten). Since a health risk cannot be ruled out, the FSVO recommends not consuming the affected product. Alnatura has immediately withdrawn the affected product from sale and ordered a recall.

How can this product be dangerous?

A high content of aflatoxins was measured in the product. Aflatoxins are metabolites produced by certain species of moulds. Their absorption via food should be limited as much as possible, as they may have a carcinogenic and mutagenic effect.

Switzerland – Public warning: STEC E.coli in Brique Sakura Cheese – No Ha

Manufacturer’s internal controls revealed the presence of E. coli bacteria

producing shiga toxins (STEC) in the product “BRIQUE SAKURA NO-HA

220 g” imported by the company Fromagerie Moléson SA. A health risk

may be excluded, the Federal Office for Food Safety and Business

Veterinarians (OSAV) recommends not consuming the product concerned.

Fromagerie Moléson SA immediately withdrew the product from sale and ordered a

reminder.

Switzerland – Public warning: STEC E. coli in Le Duo des Gors cheese.

The company Fromagerie Moléson SA informed the Food Safety Department and
Veterinary Affairs (SAAV) Friborg and the Federal Office for Food Safety
and Veterinary Affairs (OSAV) than Shiga toxin-producing E. coli
(STEC) had been highlighted in “Le Duo des Gors 180 g” cheese from
producer Fromagerie des Gors. A health risk cannot be excluded,
the OSAV recommends that the population not consume this product.
Fromagerie Moléson SA immediately withdrew the product from sale and ordered a
reminder.

Switzerland – Public warning: Listeria in corn kernels in salad products, sold at Denner

Bern, January 7th, 2021 – Listeria were detected on corn kernels as part of internal controls. These corn kernels were used in various Denner salad products. A health hazard cannot be ruled out. Denner immediately removed the affected products from the sale and started a recall.

What is the risk of the products?

An infection with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes is usually mild or even without symptoms in people with an intact immune system. In immunocompromised people, a number of severe symptoms can develop with, under certain circumstances, fatal outcome. During pregnancy, Listeria infection can lead to a miscarriage or the child can be born with blood poisoning or meningitis.

To be consumed until 08.01.2021 and 09.01.2021
