Maalderij De Weerdt bv asks its customers not to consume this product and to return it to the point of sale where it was purchased. The purchase price will be refunded to you.

WE ARE RECALLING THE PRODUCT DESCRIBED BELOW FOLLOWING A NON-CONFORMITY WHICH MAY LEAD TO A RISK FOR THE CONSUMER:

Spelled spelled “Dinkel vollorn spaghetti” from the ALNATURA brand (500 g).
Expiration dates (DDM): 02/26/2023

These products were sold in the Match supermarket in Scheut (1071).

Match has decided, in consultation with the AFSCA (Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain) to recall this product to consumers.

Customers who have purchased this product will be asked not to consume it and return it to the point of sale, where it will be refunded.

In the meantime, the product has been taken off the shelves of all stores.

We sincerely apologize to our customers for these inconveniences and assure them that we are taking the most effective measures to prevent such incidents.

Research – Mycotoxin – Europe sets new ergot alkaloids limits

The European Commission is to introduce new rules around a type of mycotoxin in certain food products.

The limits are for ergot alkaloids in barley, wheat, spelt, rye and oats and processed cereal-based food for infants and young children.

There are also changes to the legislation for ergot sclerotia, which contain ergot alkaloids. Lower levels of ergot sclerotia can already be achieved in most cereals by use of good agricultural practices and by sorting and cleaning techniques.

Ingestion of ergot alkaloids can cause ergotism in humans and animals. This was common in humans centuries ago but is rare nowadays. It can cause hallucinations and in extreme cases loss of limbs. Other symptoms include abdominal pains, vomiting, burning sensations of the skin and insomnia.

The AFSCA is today recalling consumers of wholemeal pasta made from spelled flour – Spirelli of the Naturata brand .

This recall follows a notification via the RASFF system (European Food and Feed Rapid Alert System) concerning the presence of ergot alkaloids in this product.

It was therefore decided to withdraw this product from sale and to recall it to consumers.
The AFSCA asks not to consume it and to bring it back to the point of sale where it was purchased.
