New Zealand -Campylobacter in raw milk leads to recall in New Zealand

BOI Farming Ltd., trading as Bella Vacca Jerseys, is recalling raw, unpasteurized milk in New Zealand because of contamination with Campylobacter bacteria.

Bella Vacca brand unpasteurized, raw drinking milk is sold in 750-ml glass bottles.

Batch numbers 270818, 280818, 310818, 010918 and 030918 with use by dates Aug. 27, 28 and 31, and Sept. 1 and 3 are included in the recall. The product is delivered directly to customers or sold from the farm at 568 Pokapū Road, RD1 Kawakawa, Northland. It is not exported.

Consumers who have unused portions of Bella Vacca brand raw milk are urged to check the batch and date mark on stickers on the lids of bottles. Health officials say people should not to consume affected product. They should return the products for a full refund.

There have been no reports of illness but those who have consumed the product and have developed symptoms of infection from Campylobacter bacteria should seek medical advice.

Bella Vacca Jerseys representatives said until the next five tests are clear it is unable to sell raw milk.

UK – Listeria outbreak 2018 sees Sainsbury’s recall more frozen vegetables

Sainsbury’s has recalled a huge selection of its frozen vegetables range  as the fight against Listeria rages on.

The major supermarket is asking its customers to not eat the items, but instead return packs to their nearest store where they will get a full refund.

The chain has issued an urgent recall for five types of frozen vegetables amid fears they may contain potentially deadly Listeria.

USA -Product Quest Manufacturing LLC Issues Voluntary Nationwide Recall of CVS Health 12 Hour Sinus Relief Nasal Mist Due to Microbiological Contamination

Holly Hill, FL, Product Quest Manufacturing (“Product Quest”) is voluntarily recalling Lot# 173089J of CVS Health 12 Hour Sinus Relief Nasal Mist, a clear, colorless liquid, to the consumer level. THolly Hill, FL, Product Quest Manufacturing (“Product Quest”) is voluntarily recalling Lot# 173089J of CVS Health 12 Hour Sinus Relief Nasal Mist, a clear, colorless liquid, to the consumer level. The product was found to have had microbiological contamination identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Risk Statement: Repetitive use of a nasal spray containing a gram-negative pathogen can potentially lead to colonization and subsequent infection which can be life threatening in certain patient populations, such as those with cystic fibrosis or  immuno-compromised. To the best of Product Quest’s knowledge, the company has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall.

The product is used as a nasal decongestant and is packaged in a 0.5 fluid ounce bottle that is placed in an individual folding carton. 16,896 units were released with UPC code 50428432365.  The affected CVS Health 12 Hour Sinus Relief Nasal Mist lot is Lot # 173089J, EXP 09/19. The product can be identified by a white nasal spray bottle and an orange label with Sinus Relief stated in white with CVS Health on top left. The IFC containing the bottle is also orange and contains the same wording.  Lot 173089J and EXP 09/19 is coded on the side panel of the carton. Product was distributed Nationwide to retail outlets.

USA – Pet Food -G & C Raw, LLC Recalls Pat’s Cat Turkey, and Ground Lamb Pet Food, because of Possible Listeria Monocytogenes Health Risk

G & C Raw, of Versailles, OH is recalling 30 1–lb containers of Pat’s Cat Turkey Cat Food and 40 2-lb containers of Ground Lamb Dog Food because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in animals eating the products. Furthermore, there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

USA -Salmonella Tainted Whey Prompts More Food Recalls

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert due to concerns that products may be contaminated with Salmonella from whey powder that has been recalled by the producer of the ingredient. FSIS is issuing this public health alert out of the utmost of caution to ensure that consumers are aware that these products, which bear the USDA mark of inspection, should not be consumed.

The whey powder is an FDA-regulated product that is being voluntarily recalled by the producer, Associated Milk Producers, Inc. (AMPI). Additional FSIS-regulated products containing the recalled whey powder may be added to this public health alert as more information becomes available.

The product currently subject to the public health alert is produced by Pinnacle Foods, Inc., a Fayetteville, Ark. establishment and is listed below:

  • 15.25-oz. individual frozen microwavable dinners with “HUNGRY MAN CHIPOTLE BBQ SAUCED BONELESS CHICKEN WYNGZ” printed on the label and bearing a best buy date of 9/6/19.

The product bears establishment number “EST. P138” or “P-138” on the side of the carton. These products were shipped to retail locations in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

The problem was discovered on July 17, 2018, when Pinnacle Foods, Inc. was notified by their supplier that the recalled whey powder ingredient was used in the ranch dressing seasoning supplied to the firm. The ranch dressing seasoning was incorporated into mashed potatoes and packaged as a component with a boneless chicken dinner.
