India – 32 students hospitalised after suspected food poisoning

Thirty-two students of the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode, under the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University were admitted to the taluk hospital at Vythiri after suspected food poisoning at their hostel on Friday.

Their condition is stable and were discharged after being provided medical treatment, District Medical Officer R. Renuka told The Hindu. The college was closed a fortnight ago after many students of the women’s hostel of the college were admitted to hospital after showing symptoms of suspected food poisoning.

The Health department had intensified preventive steps in the wake of the suspected food poisoning, Dr. Renuka said.

Armenia – Apparent food poisoning at Yerevan’s Tashir Pizza leaves nearly 100 patrons hospitalized

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS. The number of the apparent food poisoning victims at a Yerevan pizzeria reached 98, the health ministry said Saturday.

15 patrons of the Tashir Pizza restaurant – which operates more than 20 pizza shops in Yerevan – sought medical attention for “gastrointestinal infection” on November 5. The number of the food poisoning victims then increased, prompting Tashir Pizza to shut down all restaurants until further notice.

On November 6, the health ministry said 53 people – including 13 children – are hospitalized at the National Center of Infectious Diseases. Another 32 – including 1 child – are being treated at the Armenia Republican Medical Center, and 11 more at the Mikayelyan Institute of Surgery, and 2 at the Martuni Medical Center. All patients were patrons at various locations of Tashir Pizza.

Saudi Arabia – 58 hospitalised for food poisoning

Some 58 people were hospitalised for showing symptoms of food poisoning after eating at a restaurant in south-western Saudi Arabia, a local newspaper reported.

The victims were taken to a hospital in the governorate of Sabya in the border region of Jazan, Okaz added, citing a hospital official.

“Until now, 58 cases have reached the hospital. They have been treated and 50 of them have been discharged,” director of Sabya General Hospital, Dr Abdu Jafari, said.

“There are initial indications that the number will rise in the coming hours for suffering poisoning after having meals at a local restaurant,” he added.

The victims suffered from vomiting and diarrhoea, the official said.

Egypt – Over 30 Russian tourists suffer food poisoning in Hurghada hotel

The Russian Consul General in Hurghada, Viktor Voropaev said that 31 Russian tourists have suffered food poisoning during their stay in a hotel in Hurghada.

In statements to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Voropaev said that the health condition of the tourists is stable and they will be allowed to leave the hospital later on Sunday.

He added that he is closely following up the situation with health authorities and tourism companies to monitor medical care provided in the hospital.

The Russian consul confirmed that the tourists suffering from food poisoning will be transferred to an alternative hotel upon their discharge from the hospital.

India – Food poisoning: officials inspect restaurants

Food Safety Department officials on Tuesday inspected the restaurants from where breakfast is parcelled to the hostel of the private entrance coaching centre whose students were hospitalised after suspected food poisoning on Monday.

Officials said that only lunch and supper were being served at the hostel canteen which did not have a licence. Breakfast was being brought from these restaurants. They didn’t have a certificate to prove the quality of drinking water and the cooks had not taken the mandatory medical fitness test. Drinking water samples have been sent to the regional analytical laboratory for detailed tests. A notice had already been served on the coaching centre. The officials said, however, said that no violations were noticed in the restaurants.

Taiwan – 142 fall ill with suspected food poisoning at New Taipei school

Taipei, Oct. 21 (CNA) A total of 142 students and faculty members at Sacred Heart Girls High School in New Taipei were taken to hospitals early Thursday after coming down with stomach pain and diarrhea, in what is believed to be a case of mass food poisoning, the school said.

The 142 people, who lodged in the school’s dormitories, fell ill after eating meals provided by a catering service contracted by the school Wednesday evening, the school’s principal Sophie Wei (魏雪玲) told CNA.

The New Taipei Department of Health has collected samples of the food for analysis and is awaiting the results. Meanwhile, meals will now be provided by a different catering service for the time being, according to the school.

India – 25 ITBP personnel fell ill in Chhattisgarh due to food poisoning

As many as 25 personnel of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) fell ill with symptoms of food poisoning after consuming a meal in their camp in Rajanandgaon district, officials said on Friday.

They fell ill after having dinner on Wednesday evening. They complained of the symptoms on Thursday. All were admitted to Community Health Centre (CHC) in Khairagarh town and are now stable,” said Collector Rajanandgaon, Taran Prakash Sinha.

“Prima facie, it seems they fell sick due to food poisoning. However, their condition is stable and they were kept under observation,” said Dr Vivek Bisen of the CHC Khairagarh.

India – 50 Fall Sick Due To Food Poisoning In Madhya Pradesh, 5 Serious

In a case of food poisoning, at least 50 people, including women and children, fell sick after eating food served at a feast in a village in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district, an official said on Sunday.

The condition of five of them is serious and they are shifted to the Gajra Raja Medical College (GRMC) and Hospital here after receiving initial treatment at the Morar Hospital in the Gwalior district, he said.

The incident occurred in Damora village on Saturday evening.

India – Maha: Six of family hospitalised due to suspected food poisoning

In a suspected food poisoning case, six members of a family, including a six-year old girl, fell ill after eating a food item made of ”bhagar” (barnyard millet) at a village in Jalna district of Maharashtra on Thursday, a district official said.

They have been admitted to hospitals, he said.

The affected family members reside at Antarwali Sarati village in Ambad tehsil. Apart from the minor girl, the victims – aged between 27 and 55 – ate the food item made of bhagar (which is generally consumed during fasting by Hindus) on the occasion of Navratri that began from Thursday. However, after that, they started suffering from dizziness and vomiting. They were taken to a local hospital, the official said.
