Catalonia- Alert due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in sliced ​​Cecina with olive oil from Spain

The Catalan Public Health Agency of the Department of Health of the Generalitat of Catalonia (ASPCAT) has notified the Spanish Food Safety and Nutrition Agency (AESAN) through the Coordinated Rapid Information Exchange  System  (SCIRI) of a alert regarding the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in sliced ​​smoked Cecina with olive oil.

The product involved is the following:

  • Product name (on the label):  Cecina with olive oil
  • Trademark:  Friber, SA
  • Product appearance:  Packaged sliced ​​jerky
  • Expiry date:  11/07/2023
  • Unit weight: 100 g
  • Storage temperature:  refrigerated

The incident has been detected as a result of the company’s own self-monitoring, which has communicated the incident to the competent authorities and its customers, in compliance with the legislation and in order not to make unsafe food available to the population .

The distribution company has published a note about the recall of the alerted product.

According to the available information, the initial distribution has been made in some LIDL chain stores in the autonomous communities of Aragon, Cantabria, Navarre, La Rioja and the Basque Country, although it cannot be ruled out that there may be redistribution to other communities autonomous

AESAN has transferred this information to the competent authorities of the autonomous communities through SCIRI, in order to verify the withdrawal of the affected products from the marketing channels.

As a precautionary measure,  people who have the above product at home are advised to refrain from consuming it and return it to retail outlets.

If you have consumed this product from the affected batches and have symptoms compatible with listeriosis (fever, headache, vomiting or diarrhoea), it is recommended to go to a health centre.
