No contamination has been demonstrated on the end products. A potential source of contamination has only been identified during testing in the environment at the production site. Bettinehoeve has decided to recall all matured goat cheese products (with white mold crust) as a precaution from distributors, retailers and food service partners.

Contamination is excluded for all other products such as fresh goat’s cheeses and dairy products. These goat dairy products are not contaminated, because these products are produced at a different production location.

Oman – Dhofar Governorate records multiple food poisoning cases

Times of Oman

Dhofar Governorate recorded several food poisoning incidences due to eating some seashells that were affected by the red tide phenomenon

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said, “A number of health institutions in Dhofar Governorate have registered several food poisoning incidences as a result of consuming seashells that contained poisonous substances as the beaches were affected due to the red tide phenomenon.”

“In such cases, the infected person may suffer from various symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, symptoms related to the nervous system like numbness, weakened movement and shortness of breath,” the ministry added.

Therefore, MOH urges fishermen and consumers to avoid eating fishes and seashells coming from the areas affected by the red tide. It has also called upon all to stay away from the areas that suspected to be affected by the red tide phenomenon to avoid poisoning.

Canada – Notice not to consume marinated herring sold by the National Herring Import Company Ltd – Listeria monocytogenes

MAPAQ

Quebec

October 26, 2020 – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ), in collaboration with the Food Inspection Division of the City of Montreal and the company Compagnie Nationale d’Italie de herring ltée, located at 9820, boulevard Ray-Lawson, in Montreal , is warning the public not to consume the products indicated in the table below, as these foods are likely to contain Listeria monocytogenes .

“Herring & Bone – The Jalapeno Herring”

The products that are the subject of this advisory were available for sale at several locations across the province . They were packaged in a clear plastic container with a clear or white plastic cover. They were sold refrigerated. The product label may include, in addition to their own name, the words “National Herring Co.”.

The operator is voluntarily recalling the products in question. He agreed with the MAPAQ and the Food Inspection Division of the City of Montreal to disseminate this notice as a precautionary measure. It should be noted that no case of illness associated with the consumption of these foods has been reported to MAPAQ to date.

People who have any of these products in their possession are therefore advised not to consume it. They must either return it to the establishment where they bought it or throw it away. Even if the product does not show any signs of spoilage or a suspicious odor, consuming food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can cause listeriosis, a foodborne illness that can lead to high fever, severe headache, stiff neck or nausea. In this regard, pregnant women and their unborn children, the elderly, children and people with weakened immune systems are considered to be the most vulnerable.
