This product was sold in Cora supermarkets in Châtelineau (6200), Woluwe-Saint-Lambert (1200) and Anderlecht (1070).

In consultation with the AFSCA (Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain), we have decided to withdraw this product from sale.
Customers who have purchased this product are asked not to consume it and to return it to the point of sale, where they will be reimbursed.

In the meantime, the products have been removed from the shelves and a “Customer Recall” poster is displayed in the points of sale.

QUEBEC CITY , Oct. , 2024 /CNW/ – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ), in collaboration with the company Verger Trois Pommes, located at 466, rue Principale, in Rougemont , is warning the public not to consume the product indicated in the table below, as it has not been prepared and packaged in a way that ensures its safety. This product could promote the proliferation of the bacteria  Clostridium botulinum .

The product that is the subject of this warning was offered for sale until October 3, 2024, and only at the establishment designated above. The product was packaged in a glass jar with a metal lid. It was sold at room temperature.

The operator is recalling the product in question. It has agreed with MAPAQ to issue this warning as a precautionary measure. In addition, people who have this product in their possession are advised not to consume it. They must return it to the establishment where they purchased it or throw it away.

Even if the affected product does not show signs of spoilage or have a suspicious odor, it could be a breeding ground for  Clostridium botulinum bacteria . Food contaminated with the toxin from this bacteria can cause the following symptoms when ingested: facial paralysis, unreactive or fixed pupils, difficulty swallowing, drooping eyelids, and impaired vision and speech. In severe cases, the illness can be fatal.

It should be noted that no cases of illness associated with the consumption of this food have been reported to MAPAQ to date.

Jack and the Green Sprouts, Inc. of River Falls, WI is recalling its 5 ounce packages of Alfalfa and Alfalfa Onion sprouts because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The produce was sold in MN, WI and Iowa at grocery store and local Co-ops.

The product comes in a 5 ounce, clear plastic package marked with lot #300 UPC 763247198915 or #246 UPC 763247195945 on the top.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The potential for contamination was noted after routine testing by the company revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in 5 ounce packages of Alfalfa sprouts.

The production of the product has been suspended while the company continues to investigate the source of the problem.

Consumers who have purchased 5 ounce packages of Alfalfa and Alfalfa Onion sprouts are urged to discarded or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 715-425-9495, 8:00-2:00, Monday thru Fridays.
