USA -Great Value Sausages Recalled For Possible Salmonella

George’s Prepared Foods of Tennessee is recalling about 6,444 pounds of Great Value Sausages, including ready-to-eat pork sausage patty and turkey patty products because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.  No confirmed reports of illness have been received to date in connection with this recall. These products were sold at Walmart stores.

The sausage patty items were produced on April 19, April 27, May 7, and May 9, 2019. They include:

  • 24.92 ounce packages containing “Great Value Fully Cooked Original Pork Sausage Patties” with use by date of 10/16/19 and lot code 1091971894.
  • 24.92 ounce packages containing “Great Value Fully Cooked Original Breakfast Turkey Patties” with use by date of 10/24/19 and lot code 1171971897.
  • 35.6 ounce packages containing “Family Size Great Value Fully Cooked Original Pork Sausage Patties” with use by date of 11/03/19 and lot code 1271972894 or use by date 11/05/19 and lot code 1291972894.

These products all have the establishment number “EST. M2206T or P-2260T” printed inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped. to retail stores nationwide. You can see pictures of product labels at the USDA web site.

The CFIA food recall warning on October 16, 2019 about sausages recalled for possible Salmonella contamination has been updated to include more products. Now, Longo’s sausages are being recalled. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue. These products were sold in Ontario at the consumer level. These newly recalled products were identified during the government’s food safety investigation.

The recalled products are all Longo’s brand. They include Filicetti Cacciatori Mild VP, clerk served at deli counters, with a UPC number that starts with 00226186. All Packaged On dates up to and including October 16, 2019 are recalled. The lot number is 611. Also recalled is Filicetti Cacciatori Dry Mild, also in variable size packages. The UPC number starts with 00226188, and the lot code is 611. Grab N Go Trays  – Taralli Antipasti To Go are also recalled. They were sold in variable size containers. The UPC number on that product starts with 0226209. All Best Before Dates up to and including October 23, 2019 are recalled. Finally, Grab N Go Trays – Italian Antipasti To Go, in variable size containers, is recalled. The UPC number starts with 0226208 and all Best Before Dates up to and including October 23, 2019 are recalled.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Discard them in a secure garbage can so other people and animals can’t access them, or take them back to the place of purchase for a refund.

Ottawa, October 17, 2019 – The food recall warning issued on October 16, 2019 has been updated to include additional product information. This additional information was identified during the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) food safety investigation.

Longo’s is recalling various ready-to-eat dry sausages and products from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled products described below.

What you should do

If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor.

Check to see if you have the recalled products in your home. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

Background

This recall was triggered by test results. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.

The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing the recalled products from the marketplace.

Illnesses

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Salmonella outbreak at Al Basha Restaurant in Seattle, Washington has sickened at least three people. One person has been hospitalized. That restaurant is located at 2302 1st Avenue in Seattle. The dates that the ill persons ate there are September 15, 22, and 23, 2019.

  • 21 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Oranienburg have been reported from 13 states.
    • 7 hospitalizations have been reported. No deaths have been reported.
  • Epidemiologic and traceback evidence indicate that contact with pet turtles is the likely source of this outbreak.
    • In interviews, 12 (71%) of 17 ill people reported contact with a turtle.
  • This investigation is ongoing and CDC will provide updates when more information is available.
