The products that are the subject of this warning were offered for sale only at the establishment designated above. The products were packaged in a plastic container. They were sold refrigerated.

The operator is recalling the products in question. It has agreed with MAPAQ to issue this warning as a precautionary measure. In addition, people who have one of these products in their possession are advised not to consume it. They must return it to the establishment where they purchased it or throw it away. Food contaminated with generic E. coli bacteria does not necessarily have any visible alteration or suspicious odor, but can still make a person who consumes it sick. Possible symptoms include nausea, vomiting, more or less severe abdominal cramps, and diarrhea.

It should be noted that no cases of illness associated with the consumption of these foods have been reported to MAPAQ to date.

The Ministry publishes various information documents concerning food safety. Interested persons can consult the Food section  of the Government of Quebec website. Research – First Carbapenemase-Producing Organism Found in Food

Food Poisoning Bulletin

Researchers in Canada have found a certain antibiotic-resistant bacteria for the first time in a food product, which means the risk of exposure is now beyond people who travel to certain countries and people who have been hospitalized. The bacteria is resistant to carbapenems, one of the last resort antibiotics in medicine’s arsenal. The research has been published in the Center for Disease Control’s journal Emerging Infectious Diseases.

In January 2014, routine testing found a carbapenemase-producing organism in squid that was for sale in a Chinese grocery store in Saskatoon, Canada. Carbapenemases are enzymes that organisms produce that destroy the carbapenem antibiotic. Scientists have found these organisms in the environment and in animals used for food, but not in food itself until now
