Reason: The product may be contaminated with LISTERIA MONOCYTOGENES and, if eaten, could result in illness to those individuals who are pregnant or have a weakened immune system.

USA – Multiple Item Recall – Clostridium botulinum and Listeria Fears

Food Safety News

Fears about deadly botulism and listeria Friday prompted the Rhode Island Department of Health to issue a public health warning about Farmstead Inc. of 186 Wayland Ave. in Providence.

Certain food items from the Farmstead Inc. retail shop or through www.farmsteadinc.com are being voluntarily recalled due to food safety concerns.

Ten year old Farmstead is owned by chefs  Matt and Kate Jennings. They are known for using “New England ingredients with a strong sense of place and traditional Yankee character” and supporting local growers and producers.

A spokesman for the Jennings has confirmed the recall, but claimed its production methods have not changed since it last passed inspection in 2010.  Health inspectors initiated the current investigation after receiving a tip.

No illnesses associated with these products have yet been reported.

USA – Recall – Cold Smoked Salmon – Listeria monocytogenes

Ocean Beauty Seafoods LLC is voluntarily recalling 371 cases of ready-to-eat cold smoked salmon products because of possible contamination by Listeria monocytogenes.

The recalled products, “Nathan’s Brand 3oz Cold Smoked Atlantic Salmon” (Product of Chile) and “LASCCO Cold Smoked Nova Atlantic Salmon 4 oz” (Product of Chile) were distributed to various retailers and distribution centers in WA, OR, CA, AZ, TX, CO, MA, NH, CT, RI, NJ, and NY from 11/20/2012 through 12/12/2012.

Potentially affected product is limited to packages bearing the following codes:

Ocean Beauty Seafoods has notified the retailers and distributors who may have received the affected product listed above, and is taking this action as a precautionary measure in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. No other Ocean Beauty products are included in this action. There have been no complaints or illnesses reported in association with this recall.

The potential for contamination was noted after internal testing by the company revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in samples of the specific code dates identified above.  Nathan’s and Lascco brand products that do not have the specific package code identified above are not affected.

Consumers can identify if they have purchased an impacted product by looking at the package code date located in the back, top left corner of the package. Consumers who have affected product with the package codes identified above should not eat the product. Consumers should discard any open packages of affected product and should return unopened packages to the place of purchase for a refund.

The public warning issued on December 12, 2013 has been updated to include additional products.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Loblaw Companies Ltd. are warning the public not to consume the Butcher’s Choice Hickory Barbecue Beef Burgers described below because these products may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7 bacteria.

The following products are affected by this recall:

These products have been distributed nationally.

This recall is the result of E. coliO157:H7 product testing by the CFIA related to an ongoing outbreak investigation. The CFIA is currently testing additional products collected from across the country. The recall may be further updated to include other codes or products as test results are received. In addition, the CFIAis conducting an investigation at the producing facility, which could lead to the recall of more products.

US – Another Romaine Lettuce Recall – Listeria monocytogenes

Taylor Farms is recalling 10 oz packages of  Hearts of Romaine lettuce  for possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The company, based in Salinas, Cailif.,  is recalling 110 cases of the bagged salad greens distributed in Florida and California with the expiration date of  December 13, 2012.

The recall has been issued because a single, finished package tested for  Listeria monocytogenes in  random sample testing conducted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). No other Taylor Farms products are included in this recall.

No illnesses have been reported in association with this recall.

Canada – Recall Beef Peppercron Steak – E.coli O157

he Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Loblaw Companies Ltd. are warning the public not to consume certain Butcher’s Choice Garlic Peppercorn Beef Burgers because this product may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.

The affected product, Butcher’s Choice Garlic Peppercorn Beef Burgers, is sold frozen in 1.13 kg packages bearing UPC0 60383 89363 7. The affected product bears the code BEST BEFORE 2013 MR 03 EST 752.

This product has been distributed nationally.

This recall is the result of an ongoing investigation into a number of E. coli O157:H7 related illnesses in Canada. The CFIA is currently testing additional products collected from across the country. The recall may be expanded to include other codes or products as test results are received.

USA – Recall Dog Pet Food – Moulds

The product in question is a single production run and packed in a 7.5 ounce paw print bag marked with a best by date of 08-2015. The best by date can be found on the ingredient label on the back of the package just above the UPC bar code.  The UPC for the Blueberry Hound Cake is:  692614010058; The UPC for the Holiday Hound Cake is:  692614010041.

The recall applies to 7.5 oz. bags of DogCandy® Holiday Hound Cake and Blueberry Hound Cake because the cakes have the potential to become moldy.  These cakes were manufactured specifically for PetSmart Corporation and distributed to approximately 130 PetSmart stores in 36 states.  No other products have been impacted.
