Canada – CFIA Recalls Listeria monocytogenes – Shreded Cheese – Fruit Blends

The food recall warning issued on March 17, 2014 has been updated to include additional product information identified during the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) food safety investigation. The following products are being recalled because they were made from or contain shredded cheese products voluntarily recalled by Castle Cheese Inc. due to Listeria.

Industry is recalling various shredded cheese, pasta, and salad products from the marketplace due to possible Listeria contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled products described in the link above.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning distributors, retailers and food service establishments such as hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, hospitals and nursing homes not to sell or use the products described below due to possible Listeria contamination.

Canada . Ecoli O157 Outbreak Update

The Public Health Agency of Canada, along with its health and food safety partners, is investigating 27 confirmed cases of E. coli O157:H7 illness; 12 in British Columbia, 10 in Alberta, 2 in Saskatchewan, 2 in Manitoba and 1 in Quebec.

These individuals became ill between mid-July and late-September.  There has been one death.

Certain contaminated cheese products manufactured by Gort’s Gouda Cheese Farm in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, have been identified as the source of the illnesses. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a Health Hazard Alert warning the public not to consume the affected product.

The public warning issued on October 23, 2013 has been updated to correct some product information.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Reser’s Fine Foods Inc. are warning the public not to consume the salad products described in the link above, because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

The manufacturer, Reser’s Fine Foods Inc., Beaverton, Oregon, USA, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

– The public warning issued on October 8, 2013 has been  updated to include an additional product.

The Canadian  Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Belmont Meats Ltd. (Est. 112) are warning the  public not to consume the uncooked lean ground beef in the link above because it may  be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.

This recall is the result of an ongoing food  safety investigation initiated as a result of a recent outbreak investigation.  There may be recalls of additional products or best before dates as the food  safety investigation at this facility continues.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of  this product.

The manufacturer,  Belmont Meats Ltd., Toronto, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling all affected  product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the  recall.

The public warning issued on October 5, 2013 has been updated to include an additional product.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Reser’s Fine Foods Inc. are warning the public not to consume certain Reser’s Fine Foods brand Cheesy Macaroni salad, in the link above, because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

This product has been distributed in Walmart stores.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

The manufacturer, Reser’s Fine Foods Inc., Beaverton, Oregon, USA, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace.  The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

Canada – Ground Beef Recall Update – E.coli O157

The public warning issued on October 11th, 2013 has been updated to include an additional product which was sold at only one Costco store location.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd. are warning the public not to consume the Kirkland Signature brand Lean Ground Beef described in the link above because it may be contaminated with pathogenic E. coli bacteria.

This product has been sold from the Costco warehouse in Lethbridge, Alberta.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.
