Canadian Recalls – Listeria, E.coli O157:H7, Salmonella

The public warning issued on August 20, 2012has been expanded to include additional product.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Champ’s Mushrooms are warning the public not to consume the Sliced White Mushrooms described below because the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected product, Champ’s Mushrooms brand Sliced White Mushrooms, Product of Canada, is sold in 227 g (8 oz.) packages. The package bears the UPC 0 33383 67600 5 and the “packed on” date written as, “PO 10AUG2012″ or PO 11AUG2012.

This product is known to be distributed in British Columbia and Alberta, but may have been distributed in other provinces.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

Sliced White Mushroom Recall – Listeria monocyotgenes

Ciolino Produce was notified that our Highline 8 oz. packaged  Sliced White Mushrooms may be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can also cause miscarriages and still births among pregnant women.

The grower/processor, Highline Mushrooms, Leamington, ON, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from all marketplaces. The following Sliced White Mushrooms, sold in 227 g ( 8 oz ) containers bearing lot code L410805 followed by a 4-digit time code ( e.g., L4108051420 ) and a Best Before Date of 12AU15, are affected by this alert.

The product was held for sale at Ciolino Produce, Temperance, MI. / Monroe, MI, on August 10, 2012 – August 12, 2012.

Highline Mushrooms contacted Ciolinos Produce on August 14, 2012 to notify us about the recalled Mushrooms.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency ( CFIA) and Highline Mushrooms are WARNING the public not to consume the Sliced White Mushrooms described below because they may be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Canada Extended Recalls Dried Basil – Salmonella

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning the public, distributors and food service establishments not to consume, sell, serve or use the dried Basil products described in the recall because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

This is an ongoing food safety investigation. The CFIA is working with various parties to identify and remove all affected basil products that were made with the dried basil recalled by Shah Trading Co. Ltd., Scarborough, Ontario on August 3, 2012.

The affected product, Alkanater brand Tahina, is sold in 454 g containers bearing the UPC 6 92551 00002 0, lot code TT3N-280312 and codes PRO: 28/03/2012 AND EXP: 28/03/2014.

This product has been distributed in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba and New Brunswick and may have been distributed nationally.
