Bern, 10/26/2021 – Migros has informed the cantonal laboratory in Zurich and the Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs (FSVO) that salmonella has been detected in tigernuts of the Alnatura brand. As a health risk cannot be excluded, the FSVO recommends not to consume the product concerned. Migros immediately removed the latter from the shelves and ordered a recall.
How can this product be dangerous?
Salmonella are bacteria (called “zoonotic agents”) that are pathogenic to humans and animals. In humans, they can trigger gastrointestinal upset with fever, as well as vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain within 6 to 72 hours after consumption. People who have consumed one of these products are advised to consult a doctor in the event of the appearance of the aforementioned symptoms.
