The products that are the subject of this advisory were available for sale at several locations across the province . They were packaged in a clear plastic container with a clear or white plastic cover. They were sold refrigerated. The product label may include, in addition to their own name, the words “National Herring Co.”.
The operator is voluntarily recalling the products in question. He agreed with the MAPAQ and the Food Inspection Division of the City of Montreal to disseminate this notice as a precautionary measure. It should be noted that no case of illness associated with the consumption of these foods has been reported to MAPAQ to date.
People who have any of these products in their possession are therefore advised not to consume it. They must either return it to the establishment where they bought it or throw it away. Even if the product does not show any signs of spoilage or a suspicious odor, consuming food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can cause listeriosis, a foodborne illness that can lead to high fever, severe headache, stiff neck or nausea. In this regard, pregnant women and their unborn children, the elderly, children and people with weakened immune systems are considered to be the most vulnerable.
