USA – Organic Foods Recall – Salmonella

Nutiva, an organic foods company based in Richmond, CA, has initiated a voluntary product recall of the following O’Coconut™ products after being notified by supplier that samples of a raw material in this product have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella:

Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc. of Topeka, KS is voluntarily recalling 62 bags of Science Diet® Adult Small & Toy Breed™ dry dog food as they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The suspect product, part of a single production run, was distributed to 17 veterinary clinic and pet store customers in California, Hawaii and Nevada between April 24 and May 13, 2014. Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

 

USA/Canada – USDA Recall – Prosciutto – Listeria monocyotgenes

Santa Maria Foods, a Brampton, Ontario, establishment, is recalling approximately 2,600 pounds of whole boneless ham prosciutto product due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The ham product was shipped to California and Michigan for further distribution. Case labels bear the Canadian establishment number “473A” within the Canadian mark of inspection. The following product is subject to recall: [Labels]

  • Approximately 50-lb. boxes labeled “PROSCIUTTO x 4 GOLD” with the case codes BR031356 or BR031374, produced on Nov. 14 and Nov. 15, 2013. Each box contains 4 individually packaged hams with the case codes BR031341 or BR031354.

The problem was discovered by FSIS sampling collected during routine reinspection. The sampled product was held, but further investigation by Santa Maria Foods revealed that additional potentially implicated product had been released into commerce. FSIS and the company have received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Canada – Ground Beef Recall Update – E.coli O157

The public warning issued on October 11th, 2013 has been updated to include an additional product which was sold at only one Costco store location.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd. are warning the public not to consume the Kirkland Signature brand Lean Ground Beef described in the link above because it may be contaminated with pathogenic E. coli bacteria.

This product has been sold from the Costco warehouse in Lethbridge, Alberta.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

The retailer, Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd., Ottawa, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall

Canada – CFIA – Chutney Powder – Salmonella

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Incan Global Corp., are warning the public not to consume the Nirapara brand Chutney Powder described in the link above because it may be contaminated with Salmonella.

This product has been sold at Kairali’s Thousand Spices in Edmonton, Alberta.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

The importer, Incan Global Corp., Edmonton, Alberta, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace.  The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
