Outbreak News Today

The Victoria Department of Health and Human Services has recently identified five cases of Legionnaires’ disease (Legionella pneumophila, serogroup 1) involving individuals who have spent time in the eastern half of Melbourne’s Central Business District (CBD) and/or Southbank.

All five required treatment in hospital. All had onset of symptoms within a similar timeframe between late March and early April 2017.

Central Smith Creamery is recalling Wholesome Farms brand Sundae Cup products from the marketplace due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled products described below. Food service institutions, such as hospitals and nursing homes, should not serve or use the recalled products described below.

Aldi is recalling the above batches of Skellig Bay Yellowfin Tuna Steaks due to the detection of high levels of histamine.  There is one known report of illness linked with one of the affected batches.  Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in Aldi stores.

The Smokehouse of NY, Mamaroneck, NY 10543 is recalling all of the Smoked fish listed below, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weaken immune systems. Although Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and still births among pregnant women.

The recall of Season’s Choice Frozen Sweet Peas for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination has been updated to include more products with a different best by date. The original recall for 1,920 packages was posted on April 4, 2016. There have been no reports of illness connected to this issue.

The new recall is for 1,568 packages of 16 ounce Season’s Choice Brand Frozen Peas packed for Aldi, Inc. They were distributed in seven states: Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Florida, and Wisconsin at the retail level. The product is distributed in poly bags and has the UPC number 041498164294. The best by date for all of the product is 09 2018. The product codes include DC27063 PLAA6206, DC27063 BNAD7266, DC37063 BNAD7266, DC47063 BNAD7266, DC57063 BNAD7266, DC57063 BNAF6236, and DC57063 BNAF6236.

The recall was a result of product testing by the State of Florida. The company has stopped distribution of the product.
