Salmonella Infection In Dogs: Symptoms, Causes, And Treatments
Salmonella infection, or salmonellosis, is a condition in dogs that is caused by salmonella bacteria. It usually results in symptoms such as diarrhea, but it can lead to more serious conditions. Though the bacteria is common, it is unusual for it to cause disease in healthy canines. It can, however, spread between species, including humans, other pets, and even reptiles and birds. The salmonella bacteria can be found in raw or undercooked meat, contaminated pet food, or saliva and feces from another infected animal. If you see the signs of salmonella infection in your dog, consult your veterinarian right away. Here is what you should know about the symptoms, causes, and treatments for salmonellosis in dogs.

USA – Rare Salmonella Stanley Outbreak
Health officials in Seattle and King County are investigating a salmonellosis outbreak caused by Salmonella Stanley, an uncommon strain of Salmonella bacteria.
Six persons infected with Salmonella Stanley were reported to Public Health during July 17–July 24. On July 26-27, genetic fingerprinting results for four of the six cases became available, and all had the same genetic fingerprint, suggesting that they have some common source of infection; genetic fingerprinting for the other two cases is pending.
This fingerprint has only been seen twice before in King County where two to six cases of Salmonella Stanley have been reported annually over the past several years. Public Health is attempting to interview each case to gather information about possible risk factors for infection. The source of the outbreak is still under investigation.

USA and Canada- Cyclospora
Texas cyclospora cases double in two weeks
Less than two weeks after issuing a health advisory, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is reporting 145 cases of infection with the parasite, Cyclospora.
Counties hardest hit include Harris (35), Bexar (21) and Tarrant (14).
Long-lasting illnesses caused by the parasite, with symptoms like watery diarrhea, loss of appetite and fatigue, have been seen in various parts of the state and have prompted public health experts to advise health care providers and the public to be aware of the symptoms and pursue testing when needed.
Canada cyclospora outbreak tops 100 cases
The number of cases in the Cyclospora outbreak in British Columbia and Ontario has nearly doubled since the last report two weeks ago.
Since July 14, 47 additional cases were reported. A total of 104 cases have been reported in two provinces: British Columbia (6) and Ontario (98).
The source of the outbreak has not been identified. To date, no multi-jurisdictional outbreaks of Cyclospora have been linked to produce grown in Canada.
The most common way that Cyclospora is spread is by eating food or drinking water that contains the Cyclospora parasite.
Cyclospora is not common on food and is not in drinking water in Canada.
