The recall is due to Microbial (Listeria monocytogenes) contamination.

Listeria monocytogenes may cause severe illness in pregnant women, unborn babies, neonates, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. The general population can also become ill from consuming food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The Flathead City-County Health Department (FCCHD), the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS), and other local health departments, are working together to investigate an E.coli O157:H7 outbreak originating in Flathead County.

To date, the investigation has identified at least 13 individuals associated with the outbreak. Many of the cases experienced moderate to severe symptoms, and one death has occurred. Preliminary investigative findings indicate that ground beef containing the E.coli bacteria may be the exposure of concern. As many as 30 people from Santinagar village under Khowai Sub-division of Khowai District were admitted to the hospital after they suddenly fell ill with complaints of severe stomach ache and vomiting since June 22 late night.

Speaking to reporters, BJP MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, who rushed to the Kalyanpur Community Health Care centre, said that as many as 30 people suddenly fell ill with complaints of severe stomach ache, vomiting, and loose motion.

“Early this morning, I received information that in Santinagar village under Khowai District, several people fell ill with severe stomach aches and vomiting since last night. I immediately went to the hospital and spoke with the doctors and patients. About 30 people have fallen ill. Doctors are providing medical treatment, and while some patients are stable, they are being closely monitored. This situation arose suddenly without any preceding event,” the MLA said.
