Manilla Bulletin

“There are now 1,212 diarrhea cases in Bilibid. Two deaths as of today,” disclosed Department of Justice (DOJ) Undersecretary Erickson Balmes. The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) is an attached agency of the DOJ.

Balmes said the two dead inmates are both males and died “due to dehydration, hypovolemic shock and diabetes type 2.”

Meanwhile, Balmes assured that the DOJ is monitoring the situation at the national penitentiary.

“We have provided 1,008 IV (intravenous) fluids and 50,000 aquatabs to NBP from DoH (Department of Health),” he added

Last Monday, DOJ Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II visited the national penitentiary himself to check on the situation of the ill inmates.
