At least 70 people suffered from food poisoning on November 4 after they ate milk noodles and vegetable sauce served at a wedding reception in Paukkaung Township, Bago Region.
Guests, including children and elderly people, fell sick hours after eating the contaminated food at the reception and were taken to hospital, their families said.
“My brother-in-law was the first one to suffer. And others started to show symptoms later. Some were unaffected,” said a family member.
Sixty people were treated at Paukkaung Township Public Hospital and the rest were at Pyat Township Public Hospital. Some already returned home.
“Food poisoning can be caused by bacteria or chemicals in food processing. It may have been caused by milk noodles and vegetable sauce. Chemicals can cause immediate food poisoning,” said Dr Han Nyunt of Paukkaung Public Hospital.
An official inspection is under way.
