Daily Mirror

More than 140 people from all over the country and abroad attended but the following day several of the guests fell ill.

Environmental health officers and Public Health England inspected the Barking Road eatery taking food samples and immediately banned it from providing outside catering.

It also found the owners had ignored two improvement notices for breaching food safety rules.

In November 2012 following an inspection by the food safety team the restaurant and take away voluntarily closed for a day to undergo a deep clean.

Another inspection in July 2013 a month before the food poisoning found there was a lack of training for food handlers and it did not have food safety management system in place.

But the couple had not bothered to comply with either notice.

In November Public Health England concluded their report on the food poisoning outbreak said: “Laboratory testing did not identify an organism to explain the cause of the illness.

“However the epidemiological study identified that this was most likely a point source outbreak caused by consumption of chicken biryani.”
