Preliminary findings from data collected during the past two years from the Food and Drug Administration’s Veterinary Laboratory Investigation and Response Network (Vet-LIRN) and 11 university veterinary labs across the country reveal that fewer than 100 dogs and cats of nearly 3,000 tested were positive for Salmonella bacteria.
Also, nearly half of the dogs with positive tests results showed no symptoms of Salmonella infection, and those dogs that did test positive were more likely to have eaten raw pet food, FDA reports.
