Industry is recalling Earth Circle Organics and Harmonic Arts Botanical Dispensary brand Organic Carob Powder from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled products described in the link above.

The following products have been sold in British Columbia and Alberta, and may have been sold in other provinces or through Internet sales.

Canada – CFIA Recall – Stone Fruits Recall – Listeria monocytognes

CFIA

Industry is recalling Sweet 2 Eat brand fresh, whole peaches, plums, nectarines and pluots from the marketplace due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. These products were recalled by Wawona Packing Company of California. Consumers should not consume the recalled products described in the link above.

Note that retail cartons may show the following brand names: Wawona, Sweet 2 Eat or Harvest Sweet. Stickers on individual fruit have the Sweet 2 Eat brand name.

Canada – CFIA – Updated Recall – Staph Toxin in Cheese – Infant Formula – Possible Contamination

The food recall warning issued on July 4, 2014 has been updated to include additional products. This additional information was identified during the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) food safety investigation.

Fromagerie Le Détour (2003) Inc. is recalling Citadelle and Grey Owl cheese from the marketplace because they may contain the toxin produced by Staphylococcus bacteria. Consumers should not consume the recalled products described below.

Also affected by this alert are th products listed in the link above which may have been sold in smaller packages, cut and wrapped by some retailers. Consumers are advised to contact the retailer to determine if they have the affected products.

CFIA

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), Walmart Canada Corporation and Mead Johnson Nutrition (Canada) Company are advising the public that some bottles of Enfamil A+ Ready-to-Feed Infant Formula have been found with the tamper-proof seal broken and blue tape applied in its place. These bottles were found to contain water and some formula residue instead of infant formula.

A total of three complaints have been reported in Brampton and Mississauga.

Walmart immediately removed the product from sale in a number of stores in the Halton and Peel regions of Toronto and did not find any additional product that had been altered

Unicer Foods Ltd. is recalling “Queijo de Mistura” Cheese, product of Portugal, from the marketplace due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled product described in the link above.

Some product packages may not bear a code. Consumers who are unsure if they have purchased the affected product are advised to contact their retailer.

This recall was triggered by the company. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.

Advantage Health Matters and Noorish Inc. are recalling various products containing chia seeds or sprouted chia seed powder from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination. Consumers should not consume the recalled products described in this link.

Food Poisoning Journal

The Public Health Agency of Canada has reported that two strains of Salmonella have been associated with an outbreak: Salmonella Newport and Salmonella Hartford. In total, 34 cases have been reported in British Columbia (6), Alberta (4), Ontario (22) and Quebec (2). Five cases have been hospitalized; four cases have been discharged and have recovered or are recovering. The status of one case was not provided to the Agency. No deaths have been reported. The investigation is ongoing but currently, 19 of 19 cases that have been interviewed have reported consumption of sprouted chia seeds or sprouted chia seed powder, and 16 of 19 cases specifically report sprouted chia seed powder.
