This toxin develops in particular in canned goods or delicatessen products made by family or artisanal manufacturers for which the sterilization process has not been mastered. Symptoms usually appear 12 to 72 hours after ingesting contaminated food, but they can develop earlier or later (2 hours to 10 days). Following an inspection and in order to guarantee consumer safety, Carrefour is asking to withdraw from the market the “Tahini sesame puree” of the Carrefour Bio brand sold in the grocery section of certain Carrefour stores in Belgium and is recalling it from consumers due to the possible presence of Salmonella.

All products have been withdrawn from sale. However, some of these products were marketed on the Belgian market before the withdrawal measure. Foodborne illnesses caused by salmonella result in gastrointestinal disorders often accompanied by fever within 12 to 72 hours of consuming contaminated products.
