Because I’m a terrible nerd, I have been and had a look at the latest UK notifications of infectious diseases and drawn a graph or two. I’m not going to bore you with all of the graphs I’ve drawn, but I thought you might like this one showing you Listeria monocytogenes infections in 2025 so far:

What is the reason for the report?
Reason for the report:PathogenFurther information:
Detection of SalmonellaPossible consequences:
Salmonella disease manifests itself within a few days of infection with diarrhea, abdominal pain and occasionally vomiting and mild fever. The symptoms usually subside on their own after several days. In particular, infants, toddlers, seniors and people with a weakened immune system can develop more severe courses of the disease. People who have eaten this food and develop severe or persistent symptoms should seek medical help and point out a possible salmonella infection. It does not make sense to seek preventive medical treatment without symptoms.
Further information on the pathogen can be found here: Salmonella

Health recommendationsFoodborne illnesses caused by salmonella result in sudden onset of gastrointestinal disorders (diarrhoea, vomiting) often accompanied by fever and headache that generally occur 6 to 72 hours after consumption of contaminated products. These symptoms may be more pronounced in young children, pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals and the elderly. People who have consumed these products and who have these symptoms are invited to consult their doctor and report this consumption. If there are no symptoms within 7 days of consuming the affected products, there is no need to worry and consult a doctor. If the product must be cooked before consumption: cooking the products (hard-boiled eggs, pastries, poultry meat, etc.) at +65°C destroys these bacteria and prevents the consequences of such contamination.
