Latest NOID data

Because I’m a terrible nerd, I have been and had a look at the latest UK notifications of infectious diseases and drawn a graph or two. I’m not going to bore you with all of the graphs I’ve drawn, but I thought you might like this one showing you Listeria monocytogenes infections in 2025 so far:

If you want to get in touch and have a chat about this, or any other graphs you would like to see, pop a comment below or find me on Linked In: https://www.linkedin.com/in/greg-the-microbiology-guy/

  • Conduct to be followed by the consumerDo not consume

  • Health recommendationsFoodborne illnesses caused by salmonella result in sudden onset of gastrointestinal disorders (diarrhoea, vomiting) often accompanied by fever and headache that generally occur 6 to 72 hours after consumption of contaminated products. These symptoms may be more pronounced in young children, pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals and the elderly. People who have consumed these products and who have these symptoms are invited to consult their doctor and report this consumption. If there are no symptoms within 7 days of consuming the affected products, there is no need to worry and consult a doctor. If the product must be cooked before consumption: cooking the products (hard-boiled eggs, pastries, poultry meat, etc.) at +65°C destroys these bacteria and prevents the consequences of such contamination.

  • Health recommendationsToxigenic Escherichia coli shiga (STEC) can cause sometimes bloody diarrhoea, abdominal pain and vomiting, with or without fever, in the week following the consumption of contaminated products. These symptoms can be followed (5 to 8% of cases) by severe kidney complications, mainly in children. People who have consumed the products mentioned above and who have this type of symptoms are invited to consult their doctor without delay and inform him of this consumption as well as the place and date of purchase. If there are no symptoms within 15 days of consuming the affected products, there is no need to worry and consult a doctor. The consumption of raw milk and raw milk products should also be avoided. Cooked pressed cheeses (such as Emmental, Comté, etc.), processed spreadable cheeses and cheeses made from pasteurised milk should be preferred.
