Brown County salmonella cases blamed on peas from Green Bay farmers market
GREEN BAY – Brown County health officials are urging people to thoroughly wash fresh vegetables after four people in the county contracted salmonella poisoning from peas sold at a Green Bay farmers market.
One person was hospitalized and three others were sickened after eating peas purchased at the July 22 farmers market. People began reporting symptoms to the health department this past week, officials said.
County Health Officer Anna Destree said people should dispose of shelled or “loose” peas from any of the city’s Saturday farmers markets between July 19 and Aug. 5 to avoid the risk of salmonella poisoning. That includes peas that have been frozen, she said.
