Woodstock Organic Matcha Vanilla Oats Recalled for Possible Listeria

Garden of Light, doing business as Gluten Free Solutions of East Hartford, Connecticut, is recalling Woodstock Organic Matcha Vanilla Oats because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recalled product is Woodstock Organic Matcha Vanilla Oats in a 1.8 ounce paperboard cup with a green laminated film lid. The UPC Code is 0-42563-01786-6. The product is marked with the Best Buy Date Code of “SELL BY MAY 11 2018” on the bottom of cup. A second lot with the Best Buy Date Code of “SELL BY JUNE 23 2018” was intercepted before released to the general public.

Their ingredient supplier notified them of potential contamination of one of the ingredients. The ingredient was tested and was negative for Listeria, but out of an abundance of caution, the recall was issued.

If you bought this product do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed or double bagged container or take it back to the store where you bought it for a refund.

The E. coli outbreak in Hildale, Utah and Colorado City, Arizona has now sickened 12 people, according to the Southwest Utah Public Health Department. David Heaton, Health Department spokesman, commented on the press release page, saying “Advisory is cautionary action as investigation includes focus on food contamination and animal exposure risk. Individual case information is not being released other than to confirm that most are children.”

Papayas Recalled in Maryland Salmonella Case Investigation

Caribeña’s brand yellow Maradol papayas may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria, according to the Maryland Department of Health. The yellow papaya have been distributed to retail stores throughout the state.

recalled. Five yellow Maradol papayas sold at a Baltimore retail location were tested as part of an ongoing Salmonella case investigation. Three of the five papayas tested positive for the pathogenic bacteria.There is no information on how many people may have been sickened or any information about a timeline. And officials have not found the source of the contamination, but state that it could have occurred at any time or place in the supply chain.

Raw oyster consumption continues, as do vibriosis outbreaks

Since the beginning of June, Public Health Officials have investigated multiple reports of people developing vibriosis symptoms after consuming raw oysters at several restaurants and markets in Seattle-King County area.

There are now 25 confirmed and probable victims who all experienced the watery diarrhea, abdominal cramping and vomiting of vibriosis, as reported by Public Health of Seattle-King County.

A health advisory for a Cyclospora outbreak has been issued by the Texas State Department of Health Services. At least 68 people are sick with cyclosporiasis in that state. Illness were reported to officials starting mid-June 2017.

Garden of Light Inc. Recalls Woodstock Organic Matcha Vanilla Oats Because of Possible Health Risk

Garden of Light, Inc. dba Gluten Free Solutions of East Hartford, CT, is voluntarily recalling the Woodstock Organic Matcha Vanilla Oats, 1.8 oz. which is manufactured by Garden of Light for Blue Marble Brands. The product has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. The recalled item, Woodstock Organic Matcha Vanilla Oats, was distributed nationwide in retail stores.

The product comes in a 1.8 oz. paperboard cup with a green laminated film lid. The UPC Code is 0-42563-01786-6. The product is marked with the Best Buy Date Code of “SELL BY MAY 11 2018” on the bottom of cup.

The potential for contamination was noted after the ingredient supplier, Hudson Valley Farms( HVF), Inc. notified Garden of Light, Inc. of potential contamination of one of the ingredients. The potential contaminated ingredient was thoroughly tested and was negative for Listeria. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem, however, out of an abundance of caution, Garden of Light, Inc., notified Blue Marble and is recalling the Woodstock Organic Matcha Vanilla Oats. The production of the product has been suspended while the company continues to investigate the source of the problem.

Reason For Issuing Alert

– The Centre for Food Safety (CFS), through its Food Incident Surveillance System, learned of the notices issued by the UK Food Standards Agency and Food Safety Authority of Ireland that the manufacturer of the products is recalling the affected batches of products because of a production error that may pose a microbiological risk.
Action Taken by the Centre for Food Safety

– The CFS immediately followed up with Marks & Spencer, the importer of the affected products in Hong Kong. According to the information provided by the importer, the above-mentioned products were imported to Hong Kong for sale in its retail outlets only. It has already stopped sale and removed from shelves the affected batches of products, and initiated a recall.

– The CFS will continue to follow up and take appropriate action. Investigation is ongoing.

Canada – Cyclospora Cases Nearly Triple

In a follow-up on the locally-acquired Cyclospora outbreak in British Columbia and Ontario, Canada, The Public Health Agency of Canada reports 37 additional cases of the protozoan parasitic infection in the past two weeks.

A total of 57 cases have been reported in two provinces: British Columbia (5) and Ontario (52). Individuals became sick between May and June of this year. The majority of cases (58%) are male, with an average age of 50 years. The investigation into the source of the outbreak is ongoing. To date, no multi-jurisdictional outbreaks of Cyclospora have been linked to produce grown in Canada.

Cyclospora cayetanensis is a protozoan parasite that is spread by people ingesting something – such as food or water – that was contaminated with feces.

Canada – Hepatitis A Warning

Alberta Health Services (AHS) has confirmed a case of hepatitis A in an individual who served food and drinks at the St. Mary School graduation banquet at the Taber Community Centre (4720 50 Street) on June 30.

Individuals who attended this banquet and consumed food or drink may have been exposed to hepatitis A.

“While we believe the risk to the public is low, hepatitis A is a serious infection,” says Dr. Lena Derie-Gillespie, Medical Officer of Health, Alberta Health Services – South Zone. “As a precaution, anyone who consumed food or drink at this location is advised to monitor themselves and their family for symptoms until August 20, 2017.”

The banquet space in the Taber Community Centre will be inspected today by AHS Environmental Public Health inspectors to ensure there is no further risk to public.
