Health bosses stayed silent as E.coli infected 21 people

Health bosses did not raise an alert about an outbreak of deadly E.coli for more than four months while 21 people became infected, a report reveals.

The outbreak of E.coli VTEC 044 left 11 children and two adults fighting for their lives after they developed rare complications.

It was the first infection of its kind in England and ended up affecting 31 people in Dorset between July 2014 and November 2015.

The victims included a 21-month-old boy, who had to be placed in a medically induced coma while suffering kidney failure and seizures due to swelling on the brain.

Ukraine – 36 Tourists Food Poisoning

KIEV, July 26 (Xinhua) — At least 36 tourists, including 25 foreigners, were sickened by food poisoning and hospitalized at a mountain resort in Ukraine’s western Ivano-Frankovsk region, local authorities said on Wednesday.

The holidaymakers were sent for medical treatment after eating dinner at a local tourist complex near Verkhovyna town, said the press service of Ivano-Frankovsk regional administration.

There were 14 German and 11 Polish tourists among those hospitalized and all of them are in stable condition, it said.

A total of 152 people were accommodated at the tourist complex at the time of the incident.

According to the preliminary investigation, violations of sanitary regulations and food safety norms were behind the poisoning. Enditem

India – 48 Students – Telangana – Food Poisoning?

Around 48 students in Telangana’s Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Backward Classes Gurukul school in Velugumatla in Khammam district fell ill due to alleged food poisoning on Tuesday.

Reports stated that a section of the students of the residential school complained of severe stomach ache, with symptoms of diarrhoea after eating a meal served at the mess on Monday night.

The ailing students were admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital with the help of school attendants on Tuesday morning.

On learning about the incident, district officials rushed to the hospital and supervised the treatment.

USA – Vibrio vulnificus – Seafood Warning

Public Health — Seattle & King County received a report on July 24th of a King County resident with a rare wound infection caused by the bacteria Vibrio vulnificus. The likely source of infection was fish purchased from a live fish tank at the Seattle Supermarket, located at 4801 Beacon Ave S, Seattle 98108.

Vibrio vulnificus can cause life-threatening illness when ingested or if it enters a skin wound. Health officials advise that anyone who has eaten or prepared fish from this location before July 25 should watch for symptoms of infection for 7 days. People who purchased fish from this location should discard the fish.
