Research – New antibiotic resistance gene found in salmonella from broiler chickens

Gene, dubbed fosA7, confers high level of resistance to fosfomycin, an antibiotic used to eliminate infections caused by multi-drug-resistant bacteria.

A team of investigators from Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada has discovered a gene that confers resistance to the broad-spectrum antibiotic fosfomycin. The researchers found the gene in isolates of the pathogen Salmonella enterica from broiler chickens.
